Dear Tech Team,

My Joomla back-end crashed twice today while I was creating additional Categories in EasyDiscuss. After the crash, I could not access any page on the back-end, except Control Panel; on all other pages, I get a 404 error, which says "Category not found".

I am having my database restored for a second time today. Your urgent help to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

FYI, the site being built has been stable with no new extensions being installed.

Many thanks!
Hello,

Can you provide us your backend and FTP access so we can have a better look on your issue here? And also we need access to your phpmyadmin in case the error happen.

Hi, Nik, please hold accessing the site because I just found that the restoration was not from the functional copy. Instead, it has some of the changes I made today mixed in. Working with the host now to resolve this and will update you soon. Thanks!

Hello,

I've tried to access your backend but failed. Can you provide the access here in this thread? It is easier for us to keep track if we can directly see the access for each thread.

Sorry, Mark. My bad. Didn't reset the access right after the restore. Now it should be fine. Thanks!

Hi,

I can access in your Jooomla backend now, but i do not know how to replicate this error ""Category not found"" , because I try to view Easydiscuss backend settings, it seems look fine.
Can you provide us one of the page URL you hitting this error so we can directly check on this?

Hi, Arlex,

As I mentioned in my original message, the back-end of my site crashed twice today both after adding a few Categories in ED. Both times, it was restored to the version prior to these updates, which crashed the site. That's why you won't see any error at this time.

I'm on the site now and could add more categories again if you'd prefer that I contact you again only after the site crashes again. BTW, the Components page for ED does look odd because there is nothing under Recent News now; I recall there were news before the site crashed.

Please let me know what you'd like me to do.

Thanks!

I've tried to create a few category, but it seems look fine.

Perhaps you keep us update when the site crashed after you add a lot of category.

So i can take a look of this.

Hi, Arlex,

I saw that you added 2 new categories. I then added a few nested categories, like I did earlier today, and it crashed again even though everything was working fine the last couple hours when I was just updating other things on the site. I am now getting the very same 404 error with the message Category not found (see attached).

I am now convinced that it is with ED because I had no problem with the site until I added the new nested categories (4 each under each of the subcategories under Forum, which is a Main Category of itself - the crash always happens when I started adding those nested categories to the 3rd or 4th subcategory under Forum). Not sure if there are any unforeseen limits to the level of nesting one can do with categories in ED.

Appreciate that you prioritize this because my site is not functional and the development had to be halted due to this critical issue.

Many thanks!

Hi, Arlex,

Appreciate you looking into it at this hour. Does it mean you were able to access the back-end without a problem?

I cannot get in now, like earlier today. All that I get is a 404 error. However, this is not affecting the front-end.

Thanks!

Hi, Arlex,

I tried on different machines, both PC and Mac, and on different browsers but still get the same 404 error when I tried to access the back-end.

Thanks!

That was really strange, because I can access your backend any time even I logged out and login again.

Hmmm, I can see that you don't have a problem.

Would you mind asking another colleague try as well? I'll use more machines to test this myself as well.

What do you suspect could be the cause since this issue comes up only if I were to add nested categories within ED?

Thanks again, Arlex!

Thanks, Mark!

Interesting there. I can also get in, but only via Android. Tried that on other PC's at home but none worked, whatever browser I used.

I have rebuilt the Menu in Joomla and can now get back in. Will monitor the situation and let your team know in case I need further support.

Cheers!
