Auto-subscribed turned off, no checkbox for subscribing?

Hello,
I have turned OFF the setting:
Notificatons > SUbscriptions > Auto Subscribe When Replying To Topic

I was then expecting to see a checkbox to allow the user to subscribe if he wants to when he posts a new reply, but I see none (I am testing with a test user, not an admin). Is there any other setting I shoudl check?

Unfortunately, there is no setting for it at this point of time.

But there is a button that allows users to subscribe to the discussion entry. (Kindly refer the screenshot)
