The URL pathways that are being automatically generated for the Jomsocial stream as well as for the URL generated by smart search are using the same menu items every time. This is causing a problem because then I have joomla template placed modules showing up on pages where I do not want them associated with the content.

For example if I have menu item 1, menu item 2, menu item 3, menu item 4, menu item 5, the auto-generated URLs are ALWAYS using "menu item 2" but not all of my articles are being posted under this menu item.

Is there anything that you can advise me on regarding how to make the pathways relative to the category and appropriate menu assignment?

Is it recommended I use a third party SEF or URL rewriting extensions?

I DO NOT have permission to provide FTP access.
Hello Chris Bond,

Sorry for late reply to this and make confusing in earlier,

Hi Arlex,
Thanks for the quick reply.

I cannot give access to backend at this time, either. I apologize.

There are more symptoms regarding this issue:
1) Google is still indexing old URLs as well as URLs with entries that have menu item url path assignments that are incorrect. (example: entry -1 is assigned to category 1, to be displayed on menu item 1. However when referencing analytics there are entry pages which are showing entry 1 is on a path with domain.com/menu-item-2/entry-1, therefore the URLs coming in are very inconsistent and inaccurate).

The Easy Blog --> SEO --> Meta Tags is showing categories that are trashed. I cannot find where these URLs are being referenced from so I do not know how to get rid of them.

This is further to the URLs showing up in a fixed menu not the ones they are assigned to with category entry list and single entry selections.

Is there something in particular to look for in the menu set up that could cause this?

Is there anything you can advise me on some common causes?

Thank you.

I do not know for sure that this is somethign to do with easyblog but I have been having this issue for a few weeks now. I have been playing around with the seo settings and then observing the differences it makes but i am unsure why this has been happening still.

I have the settings selected to "category based"
and then I have the routing behaviour to "Use current active menu item id". Selecting default cause the entries to switch menu items when selecting a full entry URL in the title or 'continue reading'.

Hello Chris Bond,

It look like you set your homepage to Easyblog Frontpage layout in your site right?

I have checked in your site, it seems like when i click the blog post from your frontend, i getting this SEO URL :
https://www.sos-therapy.com/entry/67-model-for-health-host-and-germ-theory/626-model-for-health-host-and-germ-theory

If i click from your manually type the URL under this menu item "about-sos", then i getting this SEO URL :
https://www.sos-therapy.com/about-sos/ts-blog/entry/67-model-for-health-host-and-germ-theory/626-model-for-health-host-and-germ-theory

Mean both URL format i also can access.

Is it possible provide some screenshot regarding with your main menu ( http://screencast.com/t/si8Kkd6Iom2F ) from your backend > menu manager > main menu, so we can see how many Easyblog page set in menu? Because you have to provide us more details, we only can help you solve this SEO issues faster Hope you understand.

What you are referring to with those URLs is okay for now.

When I use the smart search to search for that article screenshot #1 is what I get.

When I search the site in google, (click on a non-home page link). https://www.google.ca/#q=sos-therapy.com&safe=off **Not sure if that search token will yield same results

Screenshots are attached

Hello Chris Bond,

Yes, that might causing this problem, because the Easyblog system doesn't know which menu item it should me routing it.

It seems like you doesn't create a menu for Easyblog Frontpage layout right? If no, you have to try create a hidden menu from your menu manager > then click in the hidden menu > add NEW > choose the Easyblog Frontpage layout for menu type.

Then you go to your backend > Easyblog > setting > SEO > advanced setting > Use Menu Itemid - your Easyblog frontpage layout menu item ID (from the hidden menu)

Hmm, is it really can't able to provide your Joomla backend access? Because i need to access in your backend then only know what is exactly your SEO issues.

Actually you can put the information in the optional information field below. Don't worry about privacy. Only Support team can view the information.

Arlex,

Thank you, this helped a great deal so far. I used your solution but instead of creating a new menu item i routed it through my homepage menu id. Now the pages are showing in clean URLs and are showing up with the correct modules in place. With the hidden menu there was a problem with the modules being relative to the appropriate pages.

Thank you very much for your help Arlex, I now have a better understanding of the routing behaviours. The old links (posted before i changed the routing behaviour) in the Jomsocial feed are broken now. Is there a way to re-seed them into the news feed?

In regards to the backend access I do not have permission to do this. Company policy. I appreciate whatever help you can give me and understand I will be on my own in terms of the application of your suggestions if it is done this way. I am apologize for the inconvenience, and appreciate your help a great amount.

Hello Chris Bond,

Sorry for late reply to this,
You're welcome we will glad to help you here.
It okay, we will understand your company policy.

Regarding this question "The old links (posted before i changed the routing behaviour) in the Jomsocial feed are broken now. Is there a way to re-seed them into the news feed?"
>> Yes, that was possible to do that, but you have to delete all the old links feed from your site first, then delete the feed URL from your backend > Easyblog > Feed Importer ( http://screencast.com/t/Xqza9q8cs ) , then add again the Feed URL, after done it then resend the feed to your site.

Arlex,

There are pages in the index under Easyblog-->SEO that are non-existent or deleted. See requested Screenshot.

So of these pages I have changed and some of theses pages do not have titles so I am not even sure what they are or where they are coming from.

Thanks

Hello Chris Bond,

Thanks for take your time to explanation more information on this,
I'm suspected that empty title is your site one of the category ( http://screencast.com/t/sl1cevje5Q8g ), mean that category already removed, so the system can't find out that tile of the category.

Hello Chris Bond,

Sorry for late reply to this,
You can remove it from your phpmyadmin > #_easyblog_meta > then look at ID 9 ( http://screencast.com/t/QD9ZZfUg ) > click "X"
Then it should be deleted. Hope this help.

Does this delete the entire table? Could this cause future problems?

Would deleting just the table rows that I do not want eliminate these empty and unwanted meta items?

Thank you for the time you have invested helping me with this.
