I would like to know if it is possible to share audio files in messages from user to user.
Example
Login and select person to send message to.
I select audio file as attachement, then I see option to record my voice in mobile phone "Android" but then easysocial informs me in app that the file extension is not supported.
I tried add .m4a and mp3 ,peg4 but no joy
Have you any suggestions about which file extension I need to place in settings in EasySocial to get this wprking correctly please?
, sending voice messages to my students would be really helpful
Hi Lee,

I suspect there is a bug with conversations where it's trying to find the file extension in the file name itself. So when the file name does not contain the file extension name, the system fails to detect it and throws the invalid extension error.

Depending on what phone is used, currently some may upload the file with the extension name eg, file.mp3 and this makes the upload work, whereas some phones uploads the file without extension in the file name, which ends up with the error.

I will log this issue in our tracker so that we can address this.

I found the reason why
https://stackideas.com/forums/is-m4a-a-valid-audio-type

Maybe there is some kind of workaround, or maybe we could allow this file extension, simply by changing allowed file extensions in plugin settings?
I mean I have tried in backend in easysocial, and tried to add .m4a but with no joy

Hey Lee,

The other thread is actually asking about uploading audio files in the story form and when creating new audio item.

Your issue is actually regarding conversations correct? For conversations, once you add the extension in the conversation 'Allowed File Types' setting list, they should be allowed(https://www.screencast.com/t/nxLixSXb).

However, some mobile device may not be able to upload the files due to a bug with how we detect the file type, which is why I have logged the issue in our tracker.

I am confused easily! Forgive me!
So, I am using J5 Android and see that I would like to record audio and share in conversations using "upload" then choose audio recorder and then have this sent in message or post.
and I would actually like to send audio files by using upload and also post audio files on main activity walls.
Again, forgive my lack of knowledge regarding this issue.
What would you suggest I do, is it actually my android phone that is the issue?
Tracker means exactly what?
I have included this extension in the settings for conversation but it throws the error message.
Thanks for all your assistance

Hey Lee,

What I meant by 'logged the issue in the tracker' means that I have acknowledged this as a bug and have reported this in our internal issue tracking list.

This means we will address this issue in the future.

It may not be just your phone but several others, especially if they upload the file without the file extension in the file name. I am able to reproduce this issue differently in different phones.

Maybe you could suggest a workaround until there is a fix?
We would really appreciate being able to share audio, especially as we teach English :-)
and words are so very important :-)

I am also seeing that I cannot send pptx files over the conversation chats. I have added this to my allowed file extensions.
But I can post the file onto a stream post strangely enough. I know I am probably doing something wrong.

I have just seen what I was doing wrong, now it is actually sending the file after recording the voice.
But I see that the file when opened from user, it downloads and then opens externally to the site.
I was hoping that it would play directly from location on the site, similar to whatsapp voice messages.
Also, ppts pptx extensions are working, I actually put a . and not , so be casreful when doing this, . is diferent from ,
I have learnt an important lesson today, open my eyes!

Anyway, I would love to know what you think could be done regarding voice messages played when clicked by receiving user. Can it be done, maybe with external plugin like an html5 player?

Would love to hear what you guys have to say about this...

Thank you

Hey Lee,

I would like to know how you got the voice recording to work. Perhaps you issue was different from the one I experienced.

For the built-in player, I believe it is possible but if that's the case, the audio would not be uploaded from attachments.

Feel free to post this in the feature request category of EasySocial.

When I put the extension file list I made a mistake by putting a " . " and not a " , "
Here is my extension list
txt,jpg,png,gif,zip,pdf,pps,pptx,m4a,mpeg4,mp3
the one that got the audio recording to be accepted is ,m4a I think, but I put in all of the rest at the same time, so I cannot be 100% sure

Feature request for audio recording player, I will do that
Thanks for your fantastic support
Have a lovely day
ps, if you know how to do the audio player maybe you could point my in the right direction and I could try to get it working myself, or is this something that would nedd to be hard coded into easysocial itself?

You're most welcome and thanks for the info Lee.

It would definitely require modification of files and unfortunately, currently there is no way to quick hack this.
