I just upgraded to Komento 3 and did not realize it would basically not keep my settings. So, I am working my way through them but also want to install CleanTalk. I wondered why you were not asking for any keys for them, etc... but realized that I need to install their plugin which I am trying to do. However, they have a problem, I believe, where the link for their Joomla version 3 software is actually downloading the version 1 software. Do you have a copy of their version 3 software?

This is what the page at https://cleantalk.org/register?show_manual=1&platform=joomla3 says:

1. Make a backup of the site files and database!

2. Download the plugin

joomla25-3x-antispam-4.1.zip

3. Select archive with plugin and run installation in the menu Extensions -> Install / Uninstall

However, when I click on the link it downloads a file for Joomla 1.5 as follows: joomla15-antispam-3.7.2

I am assuming I need to follow their installation instructions and then simply turn CleanTalk on in Komento?

I will try to put in a ticket with them.

I have not actually purchased it yet. I am trying to figure out if I need the extra features. :-)

Also, it looks like with CleanTalk I should be able to maybe get rid of Akismet and it seems some people turn off the Google Recaptcha as well?

I am interested in your recommendations.

Thank you, Sean Carney
Hello Sean,

What I realize is that, even though having recaptcha, akismet and cleantalk enabled altogether, there are still spams that are able to sift through (Experimenting this on our own site).

It seems as though spammers these days are getting smarter or they are no longer automating spams (perhaps hiring some keyboard warriors to bypass these anti spam engine)

I guess these 3 anti spam tools will be your first line of defense where you don't get hit hard by spammers but every once in a while, a spam or two might get through. You just need to send these messages / comments to Akismet to train their filters.

I don't think Cleantalk has "learning capabilities" like Akismet.

After I purchased the software then the instructions took me to a different page which allowed me to install the correct version of the plugin. I believe I have it set up correctly now.

I still wonder if I need Akismet at this point? And, have you all tried disabling Recaptcha and using only Cleantalk?

Hi there,

I still wonder if I need Akismet at this point? And, have you all tried disabling Recaptcha and using only Cleantalk?

I have consult with my developer and it seems that it is not necessary for you to disable "Akismet/Recaptcha" in order for you to use "Cleantalk".

Is it working fine for you right now Sean?

I logged in to cleantalk.org and it certainly seems to be working according to their log files. :-)

Also, I do not believe it will be necessary to disable Akismet and Recaptcha. But, I am wondering if it is advisable. :-)

Perfect answer. Thanks. I will keep all three. Previously you did not have the ability to train Akismet. So, glad you do now. I will check it out.
