It appears as though stream management for articles is now done via the app rather than the plugin? (For ES 1.2) If that's true, I assume that the ES article plugin will need to be updated to prevent the app and the plugin from doing the exact same thing. Will the plugin still be needed for generating stream items when creating new articles?
Hi Josh,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply.

Regarding your issue with the article apps ( User - Content ), I've added a fix on your site and now the 'read' stream no longer display Below is the file I've modified:

JOOMLA/media/com_easysocial/apps/user/article/article.php

The fix will be added into next release of EasySocial as well

Hope this help and have a nice day
Sam

Hello Josh,

Yes, that's right. All the stream settings will now move to the app itself as I feel that it's too confusing having the settings appearing everywhere

Right, I agree. So what does this mean for the ES article plugin? Will it work purely as a way to link the article author to the ES user? While the current display method is pretty interesting, I like how community builder has it change the author text to the the profile link rather than a info box. Again, the info box ain't bad, but it's nice to maintain simplicity in some communities.

So what I'm recommending here is to remove the stream code (considering that the app now takes care of this) and add an option to replace the author text with a ES profile link and another option to disable the user info box (the one that displays at the bottom of the article).

Hello Josh,

The plugin still needs to perform those stream related tasks but the plugin will instead read the settings from the app in EasySocial rather than from the plugin itself. Noted, when 1.2 is out, bump this thread again so that I will try to replace the author links as well.

Bumping this thread as requested by Mark.

The key things to look into:

- Remove ES article Plugin Settings considering that it replies on ES article app

- Make "Written by" have the name link to the ES profile

- Article app should allow the author info box to not display. I know how to hide it via CSS, but it's best to have less output to make the page speed a little faster.

Mark, I haven't heard back from you on this. Not trying to sound impatient, just giving a little reminder.

I don't quite understand what you mean by "I will only keep it for the weekend"? Does that mean the issue will be looked into after the weekend? Or does that mean "let the stacked team get a breath of fresh air for the weekend"? Just trying to understand the statement.

Thanks Mark. Be sure to reserve some free time for yourself (as well as the rest of the staff). The latest release is a huge mile stone in ES history.

Ha, I didn't check yet. I looked at the number version which it appeared that it was not updated. This led me to assume it was not upgraded. But perhaps my memory of the number version is foggy. I'll have to update it later today. BTW, the ES article plugin should be submitted to the JED. The more extensions put out for ES in the JED, the more likely the JED will consider making a extension category specially for EasySocial.

There some important things to highlight about the new article plugin:

1. In the app sectionof SI, the article plugin should be listed as ES 1.2 compatible.

2. The ES content article plugin had two extra options which are "Read Stream" and "Update Stream". The new version of the plugin is supposed to reply on the app which is great (the two options mentioned were removed from the plugin as a result). Inside the app these options do not exist. I personally don't need them, maybe they were done away with for a reason? Just thought I'd mention this.

3. I cannot seem to be able to get the author name to link to the user from the article. I figure that the option that activates this is "Modify Contact Link". I kept on "Display Author Information" just in case. Glad to see that the info box is removable and works as it should.

4. Ordering seems to be a bit confusing. See this screen shot. Reviews? Most Helpful? Changing the "Display As" option didn't really do anything.

5. When installing the new ES article plugin I received the following error message:

Warning

Plugin Install: Another plugin is already using directory: /home/alp*****/public_html/plugins/content/easysocial

Message

Error installing plugin

The stars were added by me just so other people don't know the directory name. To fix this I uninstalled the plugin and installed the new one. But shouldn't it over ride the existing one?

6. When installing the new version of the ES article plugin I got the following message:

Warning

JInstaller: :Install: File does not exist /home5/alpineas/public_html/tmp/install_5331d540628c4/en-GB.plg_content_easysocial.sys.ini

Because it could not install this file, it messed with the plugin title. I did a test install on my test site with the other plugin removed first to confirm this issue wasn't chance.

Hello Josh,

Sorry for the delay of this reply, got caught up with some meetings the past couple of days. Can you try downloading and installing 1.0.4?

Thanks for the upgrade, this resolved 3 of the 6 issues which is good. Issues 2, 3, and 4 still exist from this post. Two of which are not necessarily an issue, but could potentially be.

In addition to Issues 2, 3, and 4 from this post, I also noticed that the article character limit is missing. I'm guessing this happened on accident some time between ES 1.1.6 and ES 1.2.4. The article app is going to need some re-evaluation since all the major changes to ES 1.2. I'm not saying an overhaul, but it needs to be re-looked over. There are some new issues that have formed.

Even though we keep finding issues with ES 1.2, don't be discouraged. Many of us are very satisfied with it's release. When I do finally buckle down to write the JED review for ES, I'll have to make sure it's my most well written review to date (I have over a 100 posted).

Hello Josh,

Issue #2

I cannot seem to reproduce this. I don't see the stream settings when I am editing the plugin. This is what I see on my end, http://screencast.com/t/scjWhCYjajK

Issue #3
3. I cannot seem to be able to get the author name to link to the user from the article. I figure that the option that activates this is "Modify Contact Link". I kept on "Display Author Information" just in case. Glad to see that the info box is removable and works as it should.

Hm, on my end it works fine. Not sure how to reproduce this. This is what I see when viewing an article, http://screencast.com/t/sWZ08cji

4. Ordering seems to be a bit confusing. See this screen shot. Reviews? Most Helpful? Changing the "Display As" option didn't really do anything.

Looks like we may had accidentally copied JReviews's config.json into the article app. Download the attached file and upload it into /media/com_easysocial/apps/user/article/config/

I don't see an attached file to your post. Can you attach it? Once I swap out the file I'll make the issue more clear to you.

Ah, looks like our forums doesn't allow .json files. Download this zip, extract and copy the contents into /media/com_easysocial/apps/user/article/config/ replacing the admin.json file.

Yeay, two issues were solved by the file replacement. Only one issue remains, the article author does not link to the user as seen in this article. I attached my ftp/admin login info.

Mark, I strongly suggest that fix you gave me be put into the next release of ES for other people's sake.

Josh, the reason why the author link is not working is because you have turned it off in the article params. See my screen shot here, http://screencast.com/t/rqOAUKLgJj5

Ha! I set that up quite some time ago, CB's author plugin ignored this setting somehow. Anyways a huge thanks for solving every single problem in this thread.

Hate to say it, but we do have a new issue (it's been around for a few days). I have "read" set to "no" for stream items as seen here:

However it seems as though it ignores this setting and says "Josh is reading the article" as seen on my profile. Even if I did want it to generate streams for reading, it says it's posted on "7th Apr, 2014" but then says 3 days ago. The link goes straight to the frontpage instead of the article. So again, I don't want it generating stream items for reading.

Not sure how big of a clue this is, but it appears that it's modifying the date rather than creating new stream items for the "read article". The "3 days ago" is probably when I first saw this issue appear. I was able to reproduce this issue through my test user. So to see it in action, login to my test site with the stacked account (login info was provided when I gave ftp details), look at the profile. Then look at an article, then check your profile again. If the bug is consistent, you should see a "read" stream item.

Good work Sam! I appreciate it as always.

While we are on the topic of the ES Article Plugin, it would be great if the article app had a stream setting called "Maximum Content Length" literally just like the one for the profile (it's in the next tab over). This way big articles don't take up the entire feed! Here is an example of a post I made very recently. Imagine if that was in the stream. Because my site is heavily focused on content, I can be sure I will be seeing many more posts like this.
