By right the current date should be used during publishing only if a later date is chosen. This is because when the post is published, it is no longer a scheduled post.

But if an older date is selected, I believe we should not override that date to use the current date. I will log this in our tracker so we can address this.

Indeed, it is rare to select an old date, but it can happen, to add old article for example.
