Announcements disabled but still showing in groups

Hi again,
I disabled the application News but still Announcements show in the sidebar on the group page as well as in the drop down for managing the group, the only place it disappears from is in the sidebar under Application but the Recent Announcements box still persists as well as the item under Manage Group.
