Hello,
EasyDiscuss is saving really strange Amazon s3 uploads.

Filename upload: landscape.jpg
Filename saved on Amazon s3: 94a8d92cc8cfcc943b36a20b33442ae9

You download the file as: 94a8d92cc8cfcc943b36a20b33442ae9
You can add the jpg extension and it works.

This is odd behavior. I would expect it to save the same file name and with an extension.
Hey Garrett,

This is actually the default behavior of EasyDiscuss and it's not because it is stored on Amazon S3. Even if the attachments are stored on the site, it wouldn't have any extensions and it was done on purpose. Are you having issues previewing these images on the site?

I guess I am expecting to download the file and it have the same name as I uploaded. When I download it does not come with an extension. So you are saying that I need to tell my users they need to add an extension every time they download a file? Why wouldn't the default behavior make it easy for people to open files?
Thanks

Hm, I think we must have mislooked at this. When the files are stored internally on the site, downloading it would have an extension because we actually have full control over what is being sent to the client. I think we would probably need to do something about Amazon S3.

Is this a difficult thing to fix?

Hey Garrett,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply,

Yes, it will quite difficult to change this behaviour since this behaviour already created very long time ago, I will log this issue in our tracker, we will see if we can implement this in the future release version.

Is there a temporary workaround. Like maybe turning off the default behavior so the files upload with the original name and download with the original name and extension?
I understand there might be overwriting but I can tell my users the put their user name in the filename.

This is what I mean: I upload a file from a discussion thread as landscape.png. It goes to amazon s3 as landscape.png. A user on my site downloads the file as landscape.png. it keeps same name and extension the whole time.
Thanks

Hey Garrett,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply,

Can you provide us with your Joomla backend, FTP and Amazon S3 access so I will see is there a quickly way to achieve this.

By the way, currently I can't guarantee is there a quick way to achieve this or not because if I temporary change it, it might be break another thing as well.

You can include your site details into your user dashboard -> http://stackideas.com/dashboard/site
