I tried using the Broadcast feature on our test site and when I log in as a test user I can't see the broadcast message unless I pick the Everyone filter, however on our Live site we have turned that Off. I would have expected a broadcast to appear in all streams even if they were set to "Me & Friends" ?
It seems if I select to broadcast to all profiles, no notification appears and the notification icon never shows up our test user. If I select one profile then it does at least appear in the notification icon but still thought it should also appear in the feed?

The current system doesn't restrict this only show on everyone filter and i tested in my locally, it did show correctly.

May i know do you have any development site we can test this? Because i do not want to test this broadcast on your live site, if not your site user will get these notification during testing.

Yes we have a site at test.faenet.org which has same logins etc.

When I tested I seemed to get erratic behaviour - one time a notification showed up but it took a long time. I think the Pop-up is most problematic, I tried a test and the pop up didn't appear on the test user and then when that user logged out and logged back in again there was no notification and no text on the news stream, although eventually it did show up as a popup, so perhaps it's just very slow?

But with both pop-up and notification, the message itself only shows in the Everyone filtered stream.

By default, Easysocial will send 2 request to your server :

1. polling request - check whether the current logged in user got any new system notification/friend/conversation during this period of time. This polling interval you can configured from backend.

2. another request check for whether the current page got any new stream, comment or any broadcast, but this request interval by default we set to 1 minute, so the system will send the request to your server around 1 - 2 minute per time for fetch new data from your server to your site.

By the way, I've tried to access your test environment site, it seems like it still showing Initialising.. you can check my attached screenshot below. Ensure that do not setup any cronjob for your test environment, if not when i do some testing on your site, it send out those testing email to your site user.

Sorry about the test site, we are having some issues with it. Our current test site can be found at faenet.punya.co.uk

It okay, I've tested into your test site, it seems work fine for me, perhaps you can watch my video here : http://take.ms/lePrd (broadcast pop up) || http://take.ms/zwNv9 (system notification)

Sometime you will see it show the broadcast pop up very fast but some time it very slow is because the system waiting for the new triggering like 1 ~ 2 minutes, so it will request to the server and see whether there got any new broadcast or not, if yes, it will fetch back the data into the page then populate that broadcast pop up for the current logged in user.

Thanks for the video. Two points:
(1) Although the pop up appeared, the stream didn't show the broadcast like it did on the originators screen?
(2) If instead of a pop up, you select notification, again there is a notification indicator but no message in the stream?

Perhaps that is how it's supposed to work?

If the user was not logged in and you sent a pop-up, should that then appear for them next time they logged in, as when I tried it didn't, and so as they didn't get the pop-up and it wasn't in the feed, then they would not know about that broadcast?

Yes, for those user login after admin posted that boardcast on the site, they will still receive this pop up notification, you can watch my video here : http://take.ms/niURp

Once this pop up appear after user logged on the site, it will never appear this pop up for the next time.

Since you only show `Me & Friends` filter on the dashboard, other user who not friend with the admin, other user unable to see the stream under this `Me & Friends` filter.

If you select notification before you post boardcast on the site, it will send this notification to the user, so the user can able to click on that system notification link (http://take.ms/vQR5x) then it will redirect user to access this broadcast stream on the page.

Hey Itamar,

1) If you are viewing the 'Me and Friends' filter and the broadcaster is not your friend, then the broadcast would not appear in the stream to the viewer.

2) The stream item for 'notification' type will also not appear under 'Me and Friends' filter if the broadcaster is not a friend. But it will still appear under systems notification(http://take.ms/1p3d0a).
If the user was not logged in and you sent a pop-up, should that then appear for them next time they logged in, as when I tried it didn't, and so as they didn't get the pop-up and it wasn't in the feed, then they would not know about that broadcast?
The pop-up will still show to the user even when they logged in later, but it will not show immediately after login as mentioned by Arlex. There is an interval, roughly 1-2 minutes before the first broadcast popup triggers after a user logs in.

Thanks - I did find the pop up did turn up eventually for the test user but only after they had logged in and out a few times and it was a very long time after being sent.

There does seem a design conflict here in terms of items appearing in the stream as it seems unless we turn on the "Everyone" filter, users don't see things in their stream such as admin broadcasts, answers by admins to their support requests etc. We really don't want to turn on Everyone as then it really makes no sense having friends, plus we really don't want people to see all posts by everyone on the site!

I guess the only answer is to use the broadcast notification which does at least give a link, but we still have issues about discussions/support and blog posts made by admins not appearing in the stream. Is there a way for admins to post something so it does appear in all users streams even if they are not friends?

Unfortunately currently that is no easier way to show non-friend stream in this "Me & Friend" filter.
