Hi folks,

After Arlex fixed the site see post:
http://stackideas.com/forums/broken-image-in-post-notification

my client created a new post and FOUR email notifications were sent instead of one. (same time).
Recall that Arlex had
"....reverted back all the notification settings changes from your backend Easyblog before I finish my testing on your site"

This was done after he had tested so am wondering if the problem is related to how he reverted the settings.

Please advise ASAP as we need to post again and don't want another four notifications emailed to the subscribers.
G.
Hey Gilles,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a public holidays for us here today.

Can you provide us more details regarding this sent out duplicate email issue?
#1. Which user received 4 times same email new post notification? (e.g. provide us that user email address so we can track back)
#2. Do you have setup cronjob in your site yet?

Hi Arlex,
1. I know for certain both I (gilles@gillesgagnon.com) and michelle.tocher@rogers.com received them. Maybe more.
2. no cron jobs on site
3 time stamp for my four emails received was identical, Oct 11, 11:06...
4. Blog post was called "Opening Doors"

Hey Gilles,

Were you able to reproduce this on your client's end? There is another customer reporting such issue but we figured out that it was because he was using the "Send email on page load" and when that happened, two other users accessed the same page at the time and it caused the emails to be sent twice because coincidentally the process are being fired together. This is why we recommend users to use the cronjob to process emails.

Hi Mark,
I'm not sure what you mean by "Were you able to reproduce this on your client's end?".
This is occurring on the client's site... same site we've had all the EB issues with: http://www.wonderlit.com

The multiple posting never occurred prior to the last fix.

Michelle (site owner) does not want to post again until she's assured the multiple posting won't occur again.

Back to you,
Gilles

Hey Gilles,

Is it possible that you setup a cronjob for your client and turn off "Send email on page load"?

Hi Mark,
I'd rather keep it the way it is and not use a cron job and complicate matters. We never had this problem before. It should work correctly.
When send email on page load is on.... why is it sending twice? and if this is the issue, why didn't everyone receive multiple notifications?
And... this is not a site receiving 1000 hits per second...
Back to you,
Gilles

Hey Gilles,

I have applied a hack on the email processing so that emails would only be dispatched once per request and if the process is still running, nobody else could intercept it. I am just testing to see if my hypothesis is correct when simultaneously, another person accessing the blog would cause it to trigger the mail processing twice.

Thanks Mark,

Let me know about what you discover with your test.
Will the hack be superseded at the next update?

Hey Gilles,

Hm, I am actually just running the test on your site to ensure that no duplicates are sent. I am not sure if this fix would 1000% prevent duplicates but it's worth trying in my opinion because there are just too many possibilities on how it could cause duplicates

Perhaps the next time your client creates a new blog post, let me know first.

Hi Mark,
Sounds good. We'll wait till the next post and I won't update the component until then as to not overwrite the hack.
After the next blog post, I'll report back.

By the way, can you confirm that when an author amends a blog post after the initial publishing, no extra notifications are sent?
Thanks,
G

The notification will only get send if the blog post is newly made.

Mark,
We posted again and my account received duplicate notifications (two in total)... so a problem still exists.
It appears I'm the only one who received doubles. (exact same time)
Please advise.

Hi Gilles,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply. Can I have the permission to do a test post and see if easyblog will log multiple email inside your easyblog email activity? I've check and tested the hack made by my colleague mark and it will be impossible for the duplicate email to occur unless there are multiple pending emails that are being generated before the cron / page load is trigger.

Sorry, no. My client is so fed up with EB (as I am) that she won't allow another test. She's very professional and these tests reflect badly on her paying customers.

EB has a bug and since you can't determine what the issue is, we'll live with it. Not good.
I've said it again and I'll say it again, in my 30+ years of experience EB and how it's being handled is the worse I've ever seen. Quality Control is poor and the attitude seems to be "put software out there and fix it later as our customers report bugs to us". Don't believe me? Just review the posts in the forum and from the ticket system... of which you pulled the plug a while back.

An unhappy customer.

Hey Gilles,

I am really sorry for the inconveniences caused. We have finally found the cause of the issue since I have placed the logging file earlier on your site and Ezrul will patch your site shortly once we have the fixes.

Hi Gilles,

I've applied the fix on your site and have tested this in our local instance with no email duplication on any possible circumstances now. Please take a look and inform to us back if there are something that we missed on this issue.
