We need to add mailto links into some posts but we can't get them to work. How can we add a mailto link? We are using the BBCode editor, but we can't get the mailto BBCode to work.

Unfortunately that was not possible to add this at this point of time.

If we have to use an alternative editor, how can we restrict which buttons that are made available to users?

May i know which editor you referring?
If you referring Tiny-MCE editor, you can configure from this Editor - TinyMCE plugin.
If you referring JCE editor, you can configure this from JCE component > profile > select your profile > feature & layout , you can refer on my second attached screenshot below.

Has BBCode [email] issue been addressed?
We prefer BBCode because its easy for members to use, esp. on a cellphone.

The [email] option makes things simple - just to click on a email link and have the email app open, rather than having to copy, open the email app and then paste the email address.

Currently we do not have plan to add this yet, but as long as you have enable this "Content - Email Cloaking" plugin, it should automatically convert this email to mailto format link.

By the way, we will consider to add this in the future.

Ah...I didn't know that Email Cloaking plugin was available.
