A social media stream becomes MUCH more useful if it shows content that the user is interested in.
It would therefore be useful to have a "Stream Filter" section in "Edit Profile / Other Links" where a user can decide what kinds of post they want to see in their default stream. The options would be displayed as check boxes.
Options could include:
The user could choose as many of the above as they want.
The stream could continue to display a selection box that also allows user to filter by just one criteria.

- pages that I follow
- groups that I belong to
- events that I'm attending or maybe attending
- forum posts that I'm subscribed to
- blogs that I'm subscribed to
- all blogs.
