I know the stacked team has their hands tied right now, so I don't expect any of these ideas to get implemented soon. However there are several aspects that need to be improved in the voices section to encourage us to use voices instead of the forums for ideas. This post isn't just for us, but is for the stacked team to have us as the users more inclined to use voices.

1. Allow users to edit their replies. I have plenty of times where I find out I made a mistake in my post and fix it in a jiffy. The stacked forum allows this, so should voices.

2. The user link should link to that user's voice posts (just like how on this forum I can see a members posts). This would allow users to quickly access their own ideas and see other interesting author ideas.

3. Attachments should be allowed. Sometimes it's easier to show then to explain something. Plus it can be a lot more visually pleasing and convey the message better. We use screen shots all the time on this forum, the same could be done for voices.

4. Viewing new voices takes a lot more time than viewing new forum posts. This is because it tries to load all the posts all at once which not only takes much more time but I would assume uses a lot of StackIdeas bandwidth.

5. Separation between completed ideas and top ideas. For example is there is a highly rated idea called "groups", it should not only be marked as complete but should no longer display on the top list. The votes should remain, but it's silly to mix up completed ideas with popular ones. After all the popular list is meant to show people ideas that should be considered for the future. Having completed ideas in the mix clutters it and makes it harder to find the ones that actually need voting.

6. There isn't much feedback from the staff like there is in the forum. This makes it feel as if the ideas are not considered even though they might actually be. As a result people will be discouraged from using voices and see in the forums that something was at least looked at. This might be one of those things that could be looked at once a week or once every few weeks.

7. A better editor. Not required, but it would be nice to have. Links and such can go a long ways when referencing great ideas. Smilies make it more personal and theatrical. Bullet points are good for listing a number of reasons why something should be done in a certain way.
Thanks for sharing this Josh. This will definitely be my reading list once I am done with EasyBlog 4 and EasySocial 1.3 Right now, I do not have the luxury to actually "enhance" these portals (There are definitely more value that can be added to it)

Good point Josh.

@Mark, why not just use this forum for Voices where it has most of what Josh is pointing out. All you need to add is the ability to Vote and add a Category for Voices.

Just a thought

LAC has a good point, but might be hard to make. It would not only need voting, but also a method of showing the highest rated. Sub categories could easily take care of "completed", "under review", "In progress". The bigger question is which one is more work, doing that for EasyDiscuss or making the changes to voices as suggested above?

Hey guys,

The forum is meant specifically for support and we don't want other elements on it so that it's much easier for us (support) to be able to find issues and reply to them. Posting feature requests on the forums is not only not manage-able, it cannot link to our existing issue tracker (unless we custom code it)

Gotcha, had to see the what if scenario. My intentions here are to make your job easier and get the results the customers want. LAC brought up that idea in case it some how was easier to do it in that fashion than to make the 7 changes I proposed.

I've had this topic on my mind for quite some time, but wanted you guys to focus your energies with ES 1.4 and EB5. Now that they are stable I figured I'd give a reminder about this. Hope all is well on your end.

Hey Josh,

I am actually in the midst of revamping our forums but we have actually decided to scrap our helpdesk in favor of using our forum. Therefore our forum is not really just like any other forums, it's a place where we provide support. Hence, I still think that moving the feature requests to the voice area would be best as it wouldn't interfere with our support.

Congrats on the beautiful design changes and UX improvements of the forums. There are a few minor details to work out, but is mostly rock solid. Due to being sleepy I plan on posting about this tomorrow.

Mark, I think you are confusing my posts with LAC Infosys's post. I mentioned the forum idea in case it was some how easier, hence my skepticism when I said "LAC has a good point, but might be hard to make". Anyways my original post above is purely aimed at the voices section. Your first reply acknowledged this. The intention is for a better workflow of voices which will in return make your guy's lives easier by encouraging us to use voices.
