Hi,

Recently I installed EasySocial + EasyDiscuss, and my site has since gone offline with a 501 Internal Server Error.

The problem shows up in cpanel as a full virtual + physical memory + I/O Usage.

Do you have any idea what is causing this?
Hello Gordon,

Hm, I can't seem to access the site so I can't really tell what issues were you having Perhaps you should try to check with your hosting provider to see if they have any logs or issues?

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your reply.

I did raise this with my host first of all, and their answer was to point out that the problem was being caused by the virtual + physical memory having reached their limit, but they couldn't say why.

I had set up a cronjob for Jomsocial which I thought might be causing it, but I've deleted that and the memory issue remains.

I could send you my cpanel details so you could take a look at file manager etc.?

I've included the cpanel details under Optional Information below.

Click on 'Home' to access cpanel.

Virtual Memory Usage: 1024 MB
Physical Memory Usage: 256 MB
I/O Usage: 1 MB/s

Hello Gordon,

I just tried to login to your cpanel but I don't really have any idea what is going on there. I am currently speaking with one of the live chat guys for you

Hello Mark,

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean or are asking for, do you want me to ask greengeeks for logs from my site?

Hello Gordon,

Yep, that's correct. Because without any logs about what is hogging up the CPU, i can't really tell if this is really an issue with our extensions or which section is hogging up the cpu

OK so what exactly should I ask for?

"Can you provide me with logs from my site from the last 2 weeks?"

or

"Can you provide me with logs from my site's server from the last 2 weeks?"

..or what exactly?

Hello Gordon,

You can try to use this:

Hello,

Since you have mentioned that my site is hogging up the cpu, I would like to request for the logs which identifies my site being the culprit and the log files for them so that I can take check on them.

Hello Gordon,

Hm, these logs are not useful enough and I can't really tell what is going on. You need to ask them to provide evidence of the script that is hogging the CPU and re-activate the account because there is no way to really check what is wrong.

Also, I would strongly suggest you to start looking at moving out your account to a different hosting provider because this hosting provider does not seem to understand what they are doing.

Hello Mark,

Good news - I've resolved this problem and it has nothing to do with your components!

It turns out it was the feed display module - it was mentioned in the error log so I went and commented out the php file via cpanel, and that reduced the memory usage enough for me to access the backend and delete the module. It must be that I put an incorrect rss feed address in the module, amazing that that can take the whole site offline!

Anyway, thanks for your time in answering my questions, and sorry to have bothered you with this, next time I'll check the error logs first.
