Furthermore I am getting a Call to undefined function iconv() error when I try to edit posts in the backend.

You need to make sure this iconv http://take.ms/dPE0D is enable on your end. It would be best if you can consult with your current web hosting service provider regarding this and see how it goes.

it creates a 404 error instead of directing to the post.

It seems that it always follow this menu item currently http://take.ms/AeWMA. I have trashed it and it should works fine now. By the way, can you ask your current web hosting first regarding the iconv and try to resave your blog post again and see how it goes.
