Hello guys,

Just upgrade. Nice work. However just a thing or two after upgrade.

(1) Followers still gets displayed on the friends app even when this is disabled. (see fig 1)

(2) I am experiencing extreme difficulty with New user registration. The process is excruciatingly slow. Could you help identify the conflict.

Cheers!
Hello Michael,

I believe your issue with your email notification is posted at http://stackideas.com/forums/issues-with-email-notification . As for the followers section, I am not too sure if I am following you here. What "notification" are you referring to here?

As for the registration issue, this issue is actually because your server connection is extremely slow when it is trying to connect to the mail server. I have temporarily added the codes in the file /administrator/components/com_easysocial/models/registration.php and at line 803 and 888 so that you can try this,

return;

If you try to register now, it's blazing fast and it's because it doesn't send out e-mails. Once you are done testing, remove the codes above.

Also, in the future, please do try to stick to the original issue rather than mixing / adding / intercepting the existing issue which isn't fixed yet because this just slows us down trying to understand what you are referring to.

Thanks for understanding.

Hello Michael,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here. Issue #1 is fixed on the site and it will be fixed in the next release. As for issue #2, I am not too sure how to reproduce this. Can you please advise?

Hello Mark,

A happy new year to you.

About issue 2, you can reproduce this by registering a new user on the site.

Feel free to do this so you get a practical understanding of my dilemma.

Kind regards

Hello Michael,

Did you customize the "registration" flow? For some reason I don't recall that we have such modules :x

Hi Mark

Also, due to privacy settings on the site presently, only a user's friends can view his/her stories except where the user chooses to share the story with "Everybody" or "Registerd users".

However, where a user is following another user who is not a friend, he/she gets notifications of story posts of the person whom they are following in the "following News feed" which for obvious reasons they will not be able to view (privacy restriction). I have provided details of 2users so you reproduce outcome.

Could you guys help ensure that followers who are not friends with the person they are following only get notification when the story teller chooses to share with "everyone" or "registered users"

Previous admin and FTP details remain valid.

Yes Mark, I did abit of customising to the splash. I also set some registration details to "not display during registration" at the easysocial backend (components/easysocail/profiles/registered users/custom fields.

I have attached the file change log just in case this helps. It details all the customisation done.

However, i reverted right back to the standard easysocial registration flow after the upgrade to see if it has anything to do with the customised work but I was still experiencing the same issue.

I then uploaded the site onto an alternative server where everything works perfectly well including the email notifications on the site which is presently not functioning. I have attached a link here for you to compare. (Link to alternative server with site hosting) The previously provided admin details will give you access to the backend.

I have also attached a link to the phpinfo page to provide info about the php settings.

I would really appreciate your help with this as the site is literally crippled since new users are finding it difficult to register and no longer get email notifications at all other than myself who gets inundated with repeat mails of the same post.

cheers!

Hello Mark,

Any assistance if possible to identify the cause of the above issue (registration & email issue)) would be highly appreciated.

Also, just a reminder of the 2nd issue raised. That is, that due to privacy settings on the site presently, only a user's friends can view his/her stories except by default where the user chooses to share the story with "Everybody" or "Registerd users".

Where a user is following another user who is not a friend, he/she gets notifications of story posts of the person whom they are following in the "following News feed" but this does not get displayed because of privacy restriction. (We are happy with this)

However, Can I get a fix so followers ONLY get notification in "following news feed" when the story teller chooses to share with "everyone" or "registered users" where they are not friends with the person they are following?

To reproduce the 2nd issue, the demo login details previously provided remain valid. Same with backend and FTP

Thanks for the help advance.

Thanks for the help Mark. Highly appreciated.

I will take the heed with regards to keeping issues separate.

You need not worry about the "following" issue. It's not that important.

Kind regards.

Thanks for understanding Michael By the way, what was the issue with the mail server? Was there some hiccups there?

Hello Mark,

Yeah, for some reason, email notifications are no longer sent on the website. Haven't been able to identify the cause and my host says there is no issue on their end.

Anyway, just want to draw your attention to the activities log where "followers" still appears even when disabled (see attachment).

Thanks for your time.

Hello Michael,

Hm, is the e-mails in the spam? Also, check the e-mail activities and see if they are actually "sent" ? As for the followers still appearing, do you have a custom theme file? As for the followers appearing at the side bar, have you disabled the "Followers" app?

Thanks for the heads up. They are actually going to users junk mail. No idea why that is but I'll have to look into this. Cheers!

Hi,

I see. Regarding the followers disabled and the app still shows up, we will check locally and fix it if it is valid.

Hello Michael,

I have applied some fixes internally and in the next version this should be fixed if you have followers disabled.
