Manitoba Parkland Loves EasyDiscuss

Manitoba Parkland Loves EasyDiscuss

For the past one-month we have been featuring Joomla sites that use EasyBlog, EasyDiscuss or Komento in their site. If you have missed out last week’s Site Of The Week you may click Foxality.org to read about it.

Site Of The Week for today is Manitoba Parkland

Manitoba Parkland is a site that discusses almost everything, from daily activities and leisure to business and finance. You may click here to read more.

We managed to interview Richard Bankert, designer for Manitoba Parkland, and below is the conversations that we had:

1. Have you used any Joomla extensions before EasyDiscuss?

Previous to EasyDiscuss I had been using standard forum extensions. I also used CommunityAnswers by Corejoomla.

2. How did EasyDiscuss helped you better manage your discussion or forum compared to your previous Joomla extensions?

The biggest features for me have been the integration with Jomsocial, EasyBlog, and the flexibility of the features in them. Most of my end users are not “forum people” and so they need an interface that is really easy to understand. EasyDiscuss provides them this. From an site admin standpoint, EasyDiscuss is very easy to manage, upkeep and it plays nice with other extensions with no hacks or JQuery conflicts.

3. How did you get to know about our extensions and why did you choose them for your site?

I actually learned about EasyDiscuss by using your awesome EasyBlog component, which I absolutely love by the way.

4. If there is one thing you can add or change in our product, what would that be?

I really like the Adsense option, however, if you could have integration with iJoomla’s AdAgency, or simply build in two module positions next to the Adsense so one can drop in their modules that would really add support.

5. What do you think about our support team?

Honestly I have not used your support that much. Months ago, I did a testimony for you guys about how well you have built your component. Nothing is more frustrating than actually needing support to get something up and running and so far I have no issues with your support.

Nice simple and clean site with everything a local community site should need. I like how the ad spots blend in so well. I am curious to know what you're using on the world news page..an auto feed extension of some sort like feedgator? I like that page with the thumbnails added to the story previews.

I run an online only community site but this gives me some ideas for a possible local site. I use JomSocial and EasyBlog but still trying to decide which forum solution to use. I'm...

I run an online only community site but this gives me some ideas for a possible local site. I use JomSocial and EasyBlog but still trying to decide which forum solution to use. I'm contemplating between Kunena, EasyDiscuss or to stay with phpBB3.

My vote is still for easydiscuss, especially if you are using jomsocial & easyblog already. If you want to integrate anything, profile wise, with phpBB3 you either have to use a bridge (which is hard on resources) or make your users login again. But ultimately it is what works best for your situation.

That world news is using an extension called "Ultimate Feed Display" by Web Expert http://web-expert.gr/commersial/utimate-feed-rss-display-joomla-module. I have had my share of quirks with it, but I also have not come across anything else (with out using yahoo pipes) that has the flexibility.

That's sort of what I was thinking with easy integration between the three. I've used phpBB3 for several years using RokBridge and have been happy with it but RocketTheme is no longer developing the bridge for J2.5+. And now there are some good options that are native to Joomla.

I'll have to check out the Ultimate Feed Display after seeing it displayed on your site. A very reasonable price too. Thanks for the tip and good luck with your site.
