Yippee! The (beta test) day has finally arrived

Quick install Question - How do we install to preserve the data in an existing (latest) version of EasyBlog - Just install over the top with Joomla Installer - or use the EasyBlog upgrade option in the back-end settings of EasyBlog????

Congrats to the StackIdeas team - I know this is a MAJOR achievement

  1.    Andy

Andy, the best procedure to upgrade now is to uninstall EasyBlog v3 and install v3.5 again. The data will not be lost.

Again, stressing that you should install this on a staging site first.

If your subscription is expired, you'll need to renew them. Otherwise you can still download them when the stable release is available

I have made my own Easyblog template for Easyblog 3.0. Or it is more a style override för the elegant red template. But will I get problems with my template if I upgrade to Easyblog 3.5? Have you made changes to templates, elegant red?

  Attachments
Your account does not have privileges to view attachments in the comment

Erik, there's quite a bit of changes done on the "elegant" themes and most of it includes Google Rich Snippet support as well as reorganizing the DOM structure to make more sense. I don't think upgrading would work for you out of the box as you'll need to perform some tweaks to make it work on 3.5

Sounds great! And I trust the editor is beefed up as well.

Are you guys at CMSExpo this week? Would love to stop by and say hello.

  1.    Danny Mittleman

Hey Danny,

The area around the editor has been reworked but we can't actually make change on the editor because they are rendered by the respective plugins.

Unfortunately, we are a little occupied during the CMSExpo period and we wouldn't be able to make it there

So far soooo good! The new settings options are amazing and the views / additional themes are fantastic - glad to see that you've been making progress on allowing EasyBlog to fit in to most designs!

I will say, and this is personal preference here, that the media manager (while totally sweet) is a bit unintuitive. You are forced to click the "back" button, which is dimmed out until hovered over and is easy to miss. It would be AWESOME if a user was allowed to click the background of their screen (not in the media manager) to close out as well. Since the MM takes up so much screen real estate, I wouldn't expect too many problems with allowing that. My .02

I'll be making any notes about issues found and reporting those back. Do you have a specific place for this (such as the featured discussion?)

Great work guys - wish all of Joomla! could be like this. Soon enough, soon enough

Cheers

Kyle

Thank you for helping us test this Kyle! Yep, we're working on some changes of the back button and also working on the user-friendliness approach of hiding the media manager.

Are the existing modules compatible with 3.5?

  Attachments
Your account does not have privileges to view attachments in the comment

  1.    Will Patterson

No - As reported in the support forums, the modules and plugins aren't ready for 3.5 yet - So to avoid running into errors if you install 3.5 Beta on your test site then ensure there's no EasyBlog moudles / plugins there from 3.0 otherwise it is likely to throw some errors. Rather than getting the sleep and / or throwing the party they must need, I think the developers are working on the mods now.

Not sure if this is the place for feedback, but here goes...

I installed it on a test server (fresh install of Joomla! 2.5.4) and went straight to have a look at the new Media Browser.

When trying to upload a file, it gets to 100% and then just says 'HTTP Error'. I tried enabling the FTP layer, which resulted in the error message:

There was an error when we try to upload the image. Please try again

This was for a small (300kb~) PDF file. Also tried a .docx file and got identical results.

Thank you for the review Tom, there's a known issue in the first beta release as there was some "incompatibility" with PHP 5.2 especially but this will be fixed and will be uploaded in beta 2

Just to add:
I can upload images via the 'Upload Images' button after clicking 'Insert Media', just not via the Media Manager.

Secondly, after I've uploaded an image (which is showing in the Insert Media box), there are still no pictures listed when trying to select a Blog Image.

If that doesn't make sense, see:

Whilst after using it, it's clear that the first area is just for images and the Media Manager is for images and all other files, it's not that apparent the first time I used it. It just seems like there are two areas for 'Media' with no clear distinction about what each one if for.

Hope that helps

Tom

Is there documentation on the same for Easyblog 3? I see your page is visible using google's rich snippet tool. I assume this blog is still using Easyblog 3?

  1.    Kevin Kibiego

We actually needed a location to test the implementation of these rich snippets and I guess this is the best place to do it So what you see here is actually some of the rich snippets being ported from EasyBlog 3.5.

Currently EasyBlog 3.5 is in RC1 which you can download from the forum section. The docs are pretty much the same apart from some of the UI changes of course.

Cool. I think i'll start using it on our company blog to see if Rich Snippets will FINALLY work on 3.5

Again, is there any proper documentation on the same? Maybe you could write a blog post on the same
