If you look on the homepage at http://www.Starch-Smart.com you will see that there is a Social Activity box located just below the registration areas. I am using the Module "EasySocial Stream" here and had set it to display four items. I would like to have the social stream act as a teaser to get people interested in the site by displaying the most recent stories/activity. I can do this by setting the permission for all of my users profiles Story section to "Who can view my stories" to "Everyone". I have done this now in order to get everything to pass through this home page teaser and it works perfectly as I was hoping.

But, I do have one more request. I would like to be able to restrict the number or words or characters that display within this EasySocial Stream module for each item. I basically would like to make the displays short and have them have a more button (which we could use whatever text we wanted) at the end of the display. If the more button was clicked on it would show the the story if they were logged in or it would invite them to register or login if they were not logged in yet.
Hello Sean,

This is a little tricky because those "output" in the stream are actually generated from the apps. If we just do a string truncation within EasySocial itself, it might not work correctly

Hi Sean,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply.

This will be a little bit tricky because the output of a stream is actually controlled by the app. E.g. to display a photo stream, the photo app will be responsible for stream output. Looking at your site, look like most of the long text stream is actually coming from story app. So for now, maybe you can limit the characters displayed by editing the file 'JOOMLA/apps/user/story/themes/default/streams/content.create.php'.

We will see if we can include an option to set the character limits on this story app or not.
Thanks again for your feedback and your suggestion.

Hope this help and have a nice day

Yes, the story app is the one I am concerned with. Good observation. I think I will wait to see if maybe you decide to add that variable as an option in the future. :-)
Thanks. Sean

I had the same request as seen here: http://stackideas.com/forums/article-plugin-and-es-1-2#reply-136848

It's one of those things that really should be added in the core.

Hi, was this feature added to the core?
I too would like to truncate characters from stream module.

Also in the main stream truncation with read more would be great space saver.

regards

Hi Sam,

On further digging, i found that in apps stories, we can truncate the number of characters appearing in stream. Read "More.." button appears after the truncated length.

Now trying to find out of discussions (ED) stream content can also be similarly truncated.

Hello Sunny,

Yes, ED content can also be truncated in Stream by changing this value in Application setting for Discuss app: http://screen.stackideas.com/2014-11-11_1335.png

Hi Nik,

Thanks, earlier i could not find the stream settings, but after downloading and updating the new app version (1.2.6), i could see the new setting.

It would be good if under your apps sections you add a custom field
Updated on: (Just like on JED)
Currently only submitted on is visible and many users may miss the version change.

Even better would be an inbuilt updater from the back end.(I Know asking for too much )

regards
