Hi I read this article in Mozilla about "WebAssembly’s post-MVP future: A cartoon skill tree" https://hacks.mozilla.org/2018/10/webas ... vp-future/ and wonder how this will impact Joomla future development adaptation?

Seems to have some effect for js though WP Gutenberg have improved speed a lot

"And WordPress’s Gutenberg parser is on average 86x faster after doing the same kind of rewrite."

What you think?
To be honest, not really sure how this is going to be applied to us and this is a very lengthy post from 2018.

I really do not see how this will help us at least on what we are doing. Furthermore WASM expects additional libraries to be installed on the server which most hosting company will not have. Just look at ffmpeg support, it's almost non existent for most shared hostings.

Yes but it’s to discuss in a general awareness level for Joomla near future development grounds on a higher level but also 3pds must think about the future development environment to adapt otherwise Joomla will die.

- You want to lead or follow the sheep cook that’s the question from a guy that been with Joomla since 2005 and wonder what’s going on there many times too.

Just look at ffmpeg support, it's almost non existent for most shared hostings.

So bcs average Joes WordPress users do something easy doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist other better solutions. Like Facebook solutions to been following but you can learn a lot from them in many cases bcs they testing all their new features first before releasing them but they are not always 100% right.

Shared hosting companies want to make the most out of you (as much customer as possible per server) and you have not control of the hardware and software you using and that s..cks.

On a side note to explain what I coming from.

So that’s why I now plan and will certainly move away from share hosting within 3-4 months to colocation so you can better control your own server for speed, memory, storage and software control. So hope to release my site with EasySocial with Joomla 4 & php 8 at that time. The negative is more admin, costs and responsibility. But old days was worse, my sys guys sat up the first Red Hat Linux version system bcs there were no hosting’s companies at that time 1994. Old days were different when there was no colocation or anywhere to buy/find a leased line.

Then I also was forced to buy an ATM leased lines 320 kb/sec for 3.500 US/month! buy Supemicro motherboards import from US to build servers etc build your own first country credit card payment system from scratch, create and invent picture upload functionality in browsers for the world with for Netscape so I could build a user control content subscription member system etc you have no idea how much I have done before within this area – on a digital business development level. Now many of these things are sooo easy but still many things are still complicated in other areas.

Now to take next step for my now old hobby Joomla project WTD I sold a Facebook predecessor premium domain this week within travel TravelMate.com that was an early travel community similar Facebook built 1996 in perl and first java version with our own built database.

My db guy later built Euroseek for their company https://www.wsj.com/articles/SB861306510137666500 and they regret deeply they didn’t take the offer from Digital – Altavista that time.

Same sample profile picture on WTD https://www.whattodo.com/media/com_easysocial/avatars/defaults/profiles/1/623690f9ad2111efd40c379e88bb362b_square.png

So what I looking forward to now is that the Joomla community also have a chance to compete in the future with Joomla itself and also 3pds that help each other with new innovative solutions.

I completely agree that we should step out of our comfort zone but I do not think WebAssembly is going to help us in terms of development of our extensions (at least from my understanding of what it offers)

As a matter of whether or not that will dictate the future of Joomla, to be honest, I am not in a good position to comment on this since I am not part of the Joomla core.
