I have set Name Indexing based on username from the back end and done a purge and re-build. I have also set the name field (not username) as NOT searchable. Yet when I use the advanced search it gives me the options to search on real name but does not give me the option to search on username. (I also have Display name format set as Username and I do not display the real name on any part of the profile once a user is registered.)

I did a full name search for a user and it managed to find them from their real name which it should NOT be doing.

Sorry for late reply to this,
By default the system will not search the username, because that was not secure for every user in Easysocial.

If you set the name custom field -> searchable to NO, you have to set all the profile type name custom field -> searchable to NO, so this field will not show out in advanced search selection option area.

Thanks for the reply. For my system the reason people create users names is they can call themsleves anything and no one will then know their real name, so it seems the reverse is true for my particular useage, i.e. searching usernames is secure, having real names displayed is not.
Anyway I have now found that a normal search (as opposed to the "advanced" search) does find users by user name so at least it is workable that way.

Thanks for the info on the profile field appearing, I thought I had set it as non-searchable in both profile types on my site but I hadn't, so making that change does remove it from the list :-)
