This is hopefully a quick tweak that can be made to improve engagement....

On the users listing page (URL provided if needed), only the 'Follow User' and 'Add as Friend' buttons show to non-logged as default... the 'Message' button only appears next to them when you're logged in.

For the same reason the 'Follow' and 'Add Friend' buttons show to non-logged in users (to draw people in to logging in), the 'Message' button should as well?

Thanks!
Hi,

The checking is different for all 3 buttons. Technically it doesn't check explicitly if the user is logged in or not, there are complicated checks that is going on, that just happened to seem like guest can see this and logged in user can see this.

So do you want me to put something like this on voices?!

Technically is there a reason why it couldn't / shouldn't show up for non-logged in users given the other ones already do?

HI,

I am not sure if this is a "voice" or not.

Technically:

Friends button is checking if the current user is a friend with the target user or not.

Following button is checking if the current user is following the target user or not.

Message button is checking against its profile to see if this profile has the access/permission to send message or not, and it also validates against the target user's privacy.

OK I must be too tired. You guys are the experts and I bow to your awesomeness.

I just don't get why the Friend and Follow button would show to an offline user, but the Message one wouldn't.

Appreciate you've tried to explain it. Probably makes perfect sense to others! Consider it case closed as I know you have bigger fish to fry!

@Andy Actually I do agree that it is not consistent. Perhaps those button shouldn't appear at all if a user is not logged in?

Ah thank you!

I'm a fan of showing people what they could do if they login... that's what encourages people to register / login... so my favourite approach would be to add the powerful 'Message' option to the non-logged in view.

Right now if the non logged in user clicks either of the other buttons that do show, they get the nice login pop-up... so I just think the Message button should be there and do that too!
