When uploading photos for a cover they just result in transparent images.
I can't connect with your FTP server.

Can you check this folder have any of your image files as what you upload through the media manager?

JoomlaFolder/easyarticles/images/...

If yes, I think it probably is because somewhere restricts access to this directory folder file JoomlaFolder/easyarticles/.. so it doesn't render the image after you uploaded.

Can you check with your AdminTools htaccess configuration setting and see how it goes?

There are files in JoomlaFolder/easyarticles/images/... and when downloaded they are the files that were uploaded.

Also I checked directory ownership and file permissions
the directory is 755 and files are 644 I believe those are the correct permissions
what else could it be?

Okay, which means that the upload process is works perfectly but somewhere restricted to access the image file on the site.

I am guessing this restriction access from AdminTools, can you try to add easyarticles into this Frontend directories where file type exceptions are allowed field and see how it goes?

If still can't then you have to consult with AdminTools support regarding this.
