Hi,

if I try to upload photos to ES from my mobile device it receive aleays the mentioned error message. I do not know exactly but this error message seems to be new.....

Is there anything I can do by myself?
Hello Horst,

The memory_limit is actually dependent on how much memory is being used at a single point of time. I believe it probably worked fine because the php scripts on the server is utilizing lesser resources.

It seems not to be a matter of the image size......I tried several different sizes. 20MB is max file size upload of the the server, the issue is only available via mobile phone....

Hello Horst,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply. I have tried to upload some photos on the site and it seems to work just fine. Can I know what are the steps taken to reproduce this issue?

Maybe there is a difference between creating an album or uploading the photos directly with the activity box on frontpage....

Yes, that's it! If I upload new photos after creating a new album everything works fine! Uploading photos within the activity box fails....

Hi Horst, would you be able to send us the original photo that you have used to upload as we are unable to replicate this on an actual iPhone device with an actual photo shot from an iPhone on your site.

UPDATE! I have finally able to replicate the issue. It is an out of memory error.
EasySocial will try to disable your server's memory limit but unfortunately your server has been configured to disallow that.
Would you be able to increase your server's memory limit or ask your web host to disable that restriction?

Hi Jensen,
My hosting package has a memory limit of 128MB. I am already using this parameter. Are you really sure that's the reason? Resizing images does not help and "fix" the issue. Before updating to the current release of ES it was working fine.....

Thanks

Horst

Hi, the reason why the previous EasySocial *might* be working fine was because the feature "automatically fix photo orientation" was partially broken in the previous version hence not all mobile phone uploaded photos were correctly rotated.

The reason why the memory limit was exceeded is because loading an iPhone5 image 3264x2448 takes about ~40mb of memory. To further rotate/resize image of that resolution we will need to allocate another additional ~40-60mb of memory.

In best case scenario, EasySocial will try to disable the memory limit on your server but it is also up to your server to allow that to happen, which in your case, your server is restricting that from happening.

So your best course of action here is to increase your server's memory limit or ask your web host allow the use of "ini_set" for "memory_limit".

Hi Jensen,

thanks for your detailed feedback. This means that my hosting package is not the right one for using ES...... because my provider will not increase the memory_limit. What I cannot understand is, that uploading a resized image via iPhone causes the same issue....?

What are then the technical server requirements for ES?

Hi Horst, the image you have provided allocates around 40mb of memory and it is resizing successfully on your site.
So I am puzzled why is it not working for you?

Hi Jensen, thanks for your feedback. I tried several times to upload this photo without any success. I don't know why it works now fine......in the meantime I am going to resize all my photos before upload via mobile phone.
