I have been getting a lot of feedback from our beta testers saying our site feels like a poor mans Facebook. They say they want a better way of getting access to the information that is relevant to them. They dont want to have to search for it, or select a category everytime. They want a tailored feed.

So I was thinking of twitter and the way you follow what you are interested in. Currently EasySocial already has this feature, but it could be evolved and leveraged better.

What I mean is when people sign up they could select categories of things they are interested in ala StumbleUpon and Twitter, and then they could see profiles of people who are interested in the same stuff with priority given to the ones with the most followers in that category. Also the default feed would be Following.

After that it could continuously suggest people to follow who are into the same stuff as you.
Hello Jannik,

Thanks for the heads up on this but please do utilize our voices area at http://stackideas.com/voices/easysocial for feature requests. Because managing feature requests in the forum is extremely crazy, we will not be looking at the feature requests in the forum area when we start working on the next version. Most likely your feature requests here might not be picked up as we'll only be looking at the voices area.

Oh most certainly, I have used the Voices section a lot in the past, and I will continue to do so. This idea has been posted there as requested.

However, I strongly suggest cleaning up the EasySocial Voice area one of these days, it is like the wild wild west over there ;-) Remove rejected or overlapping ideas, move accepted ideas into a separate section etc. Keep it clean. Also, when things get less hectic try to interact more in suggestions, discussing ideas, turning down ideas or encouraging ideas.

Also update the accepted version numbers to the ones on the current roadmap, rather than the old roadmap. Some items still are scheduled for 3.0 and 4.0, rather than 1.3, 1.4 or 1.5.

The Voices section started very strong, but due to lack of moderation and tons of bugs after adding your other products to it, the Voices section is no longer a joy to use.

Although, I understand the focus has been on ES 1.3 and EB 4.0, so I am not complaining. I am sure you are aware of the challenges with Voices

Thanks Jannik! We normally only access the voices area as soon as we start to work on the next version of our extension because that is the only place where we could collect ideas and start planning

You are very welcome, and yeah I figured that was the case.

Anyway, all I was trying to do was relay feedback from my sites beta users. They keep saying it is too much like facebook, but not as good as facebook. The concrete suggestions have always been in the form of making content exploration easier. More focus on following, making it easier to find and follow the relevant people. More focus on hashtags, by making trending hashtag modules... more focus on tailored EB and ES feeds based on the stuff you are most interested in etc.

Basically think of how it looks when you sign up on StumbleUpon, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram etc. You tailor your experience by selecting categories or following certain people.

I will try to come up with more specific ideas and add them to the Voices section. But by posting it here I was hoping that other people would add to these ideas. I think this is a great opportunity to separate yourself from the competition and add more value to your products and better cross component integration.

Hello Jannik,

Totally understand you here but it not everyone is looking for the same outcome We have to build something that is the best interest of everyone. Anything that is niche to your site's usage only should be customized / tweaked

Oh definitely, I fully agree. But making it easier to find relevant content is by no means a niche thing. Especially not in todays age, where every successful Social Network outside of Facebook has focused on content exploration and sharing... and considering you guys have EasyBlog and EasyDiscuss, which are content based... and already have a follow feature and a hashtag feature. This should actually be an area of great opportunity. Those two features are great, but currently they are like afterthoughts. It is a missed opportunity. If those two features could become a more important part of the stackideas product suite experience, the experience would significantly improve. That is just my 2 cents
