I feel you on that Mark! We have the same spaghetti code going with our newly implemented theme for EasyDiscuss at KyneticWeb(dot)com. The code is a mess and we were asked about it through a ticket from a client.. sort of the same response.. we'd really have to clean it up.
I do think the folks above bring up an interesting point. Offer options for wide and standard templates. Maybe not everyone uses 960 anymore.. but there are a number of templates out there that are limited to such. In general though, a great deal of the market has adapted to the wider frameworks.
Maybe designers could take up sourcing templates for you guys? I am not sure your stance on others creating themes for your EasyDiscuss though.. that's just food for thought.
