Most popular sites links like Facebook are easily done by by entering a url field. But in Skype case you need a html field that allows editing or code entry on the frontend. This cannot be done at this point of time with your standard html custom field . Jomsocial has a plugin called skypemaster from http://www.techgasp.com/jomsocial/chat-messaging/jomsocial-skype-master-plugin that works perfectly.
That's correct but in the user edit you can insert the code via the backend but it will be the same for all users. If the html is editable from the frontend and linked to each specific user database field it will work correctly. This some function can be used for almost any other service that a user wishes it is also a way to introduce profile videos and so on.
