I havent used email providers before and thinking of using Mandrill for EasySocial's transactional emails for my new production site. Since I am new to this, can you tell me how do I set-up EasySocial to use Mandrill when sending emails? From what I read, I can set up Mandrill's SMTP connection in Joomla's mail setting, does EasySocial use these Joomla's mail setting or how does it work?
Hello Neel,

Setting up transactional emails is pretty easy since you can just configure Joomla to use the SMTP details on Mandrill. This would be activated throughout your Joomla site. In other words, if any scripts or extensions that tries to send out emails, it would route via Mandrill too. You just need to set this up on Mandrill and obtain the SMTP details. Then configure this in your Joomla Global Configuration area

Thank you Mark. That is very easy. Since EasySocial passes the emails to Joomla and setting the SMTP from Joomla's configuration alone is good enough, it makes the whole process simple. So I guess, the only thing I need to set-up for EasySocial will be the cron job for emails and thats it. That is great.

As setting up the SMTP for Mandrill directly with Joomla is really easy, I dont know why some people recommend CMandrill extension for it. I am guessing I would need CMandrill only if I want to beautify the emails with a template, is that right? As EasySocial's HTML emails already looks really nice, I wont be needing CMandrill for it, right?

Thank you Mark.

Hello Neel,

I guess CMandrill does more than just smtp. Perhaps it also has some other functionality within it.

Thank you Mark. I might give Mandrill a try. Seems to be a lot cheaper than Sendgrid.

Firstly, you should check on Mandrill if it did try to send the email twice. If it does, you should check this with CMandrill.
