"You may view the discussion by clicking on the button below.
Read this discussion ยป"

I am loving the Easy Discussions forum. I have set it up for my users. I have one issue I haven't been able to resolve. When users click on the "Read this discussion" most often they are not logged in and they get the error page. Is it possible to avoid this? Maybe go to the logon screen first or log them in via the email? I am not sure if this set up is possible.

Many thanks

David
Hello David,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply.

That is actually a correct behavior when user does not have the permission to view the discussion it will be redirected to 404 page not found for the benefit of SEO.

Is it possible to avoid this? Maybe go to the logon screen first or log them in via the email? I am not sure if this set up is possible.

I am sorry but it's not possible to do so with the current system of easydiscuss.

Hi Ezrul,

Thanks for your speedy reply. The users do have permission but it is not invoked as they need to login. IS this still the same problem?

Thanks

David

Hello David,

By right it should working fine when the user has the permission to view the discussion. Can you provide us with your Joomla backend and FTP access so we can check on the issue directly?

Hi Ezrul,

- Edited -

I am not sure how I can give you FTP?

- Edited -

I now have two problems. 1) This post which is that I click on read description but I don't get access to the post that I should have access to unless I login.

2) I am confused as to how the email notifications work. I have two levels of security on the forum. 1) super users and the other 2) managers (registered).

As an example post "in honour of tranparency" should go to all users but only to "Bill" and Theresa".
Another post "Letter to Bill" goes to all trustees as expected and has the same settings.

Thanks for your help,

David

Hello David,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply.

This post which is that I click on read description but I don't get access to the post that I should have access to unless I login.

I've applied some customization inside your /components/com_easydiscuss/views/post/view.html.php and when user that does not have the permission to view the post they will get the message to login first before viewing, http://screen.stackideas.com/2015-06-16_1747.png

2) I am confused as to how the email notifications work. I have two levels of security on the forum. 1) super users and the other 2) managers (registered).

I'm not quite sure if I understand you here. Do you mind if you can elaborate more on this issue? By the way the notification settings is located at backend > easydiscuss > settings > notifications, if this could help.

Hi Ezrul,

I have been having intermittent problems in the forum for easy discuss in that some posts do not get posted as expected.

Sometimes I receive an email when people post and sometimes i don't.

There is one currently that has been posted by Theresa and it has only been emailed to david@centrebalance.com when it should be emailed to everyone.

Can you help, I set up the forum so people could post and follow threads. There are 8 of us that converse regular but the forum is proving unreliable at the moment.

I think I have the notifications set correctly.

Many thanks,

David

Hey David,

I have checked your site and it looks like you do not have any "site wide" subscribers for EasyDiscuss. Hence, there isn't any notifications being sent to other users on the site.

Do you intend to setup EasyDiscuss so that it sends a notification to everyone that registered on the site regardless if they subscribed to the site or not? I wouldn't reckon you to go with this setup as this would eventually be pretty annoying for anyone that registered on your site. If you really need this, you can turn on the options in EasyDiscuss > Settings > Notifications and enable the option "Notify all users on new post"

I have it set up to notify people when the category is notified. If you check out the email notifications many of the posts go to the correct list of people but every now and then one only goes to one or two. I don't know why it is different?

We have 8 people who need to communicate privately and have email when one posts, these have category as private trustee. I have two others that can see public posts. How can I set it up so that the 8 can reliably be notified?

Thanks,

David

Hey David,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here. I have checked the post that you mentioned, "Good News Funding Help for Ahika" and it was posted under the category of "Trustee Private". However I don't seem to see any users subscribed to this category.

Am I missing anything here?

Hi Mark,

that is. I would love to solve this issue though.

I did try reading through the documentation but couldn't find what I was looking for.

I have set it up currently that category 'Private discussion' has permission set for 8 users and others are set to the 10 users. This means when an update is made to the private discussion only the 8 receive. This has been working ok but one of two posts doesn't go to everyone and I don't know what is different.

How do I have people subscribe to only a category? It would seem one of the users did subscribe previously and it overrode the permission and gave them access to everything. He was not one of the 8 of the private discussion but could see them when he subscribed.

It is quite key that these 8 users are able to open topics and discuss them in private and be notified when someone makes a post.

Your assistance would be appreciated, thanks

David

What is really strange is that when Theresa makes a post it only goes to one email.

Hello David,

I've tested with David account to post in Trustee Private category. The email is only be sent to one recipient. Can you test verify this is the same issue with Theresa? If so, I can debug using David account. By the way, can you provide us your FTP access? You can provide it in the Site Details below the reply form. Only support team will be able to see the details.

Hi Nick,

Yes, I think this is the same issue. Can use David to debug. When I posted under my name it also only went to one person when it used to go to 8. It worked fine at first and stopped working. I deleted the category and created new one which worked fine at first and now this weird way of only sending one email.

I am happy to give FTP access. I don't know what it is though as quite new to that part of system. How do I find the FTP access?

Cheers,

David

Hello David,

To get the FTP access, you might want to ask your web hosting to create the access for you.

Hi David,

I've tried to access your FTP but it seems like nothing is listed there except one file. You can see from my screenshot here after I logged in into your FTP account, http://screencast.com/t/M118C4Jr . Please advise.

Hi David,

Thank you for the FTP access. I am able to logged in now. By the way I believe there are some misunderstanding here regarding on the private category issue. I've checked your category "trustee ptivate" permission and you have assigned only "super user" group will be able to access and get email notification when the discussion is post under that category. After that I checked all of your users and there are only one user that are assigned to "super user" group only, while the rest of the users is under the "super user" and "registered" user group, http://screencast.com/t/VKX3t6upJyL .

With above option in place when user post a question under category "trustee private" only user under "super user" group only will get email notification while the rest will not get it. When I try to add "registered" user group as part of the category permission (for testing purpose) all of your users under super user and registered user group will get notification. Perhaps what I can suggest is you assign users that are listed as private into another user group; for example administrator user group and assign the category permission to allow administrator to access that category instead of multiple user group.

Perhaps this could clear up the confusion that you have here.
