Is it possible to remove 'item' from group and event related urls?

Thanks.
Hello Justin,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply.

Unfortunately it is not possible to remove "item" in the url as it is necessary for the system to fetch the layout type from the url in order to display the event/group content. If you want to remove it perhaps you can use other 3rd party SEF extension such as sh404sef.

I find that 'item' in the URL handy....I can use it with the nonumber custom module it exclude modules from that level...

So, I can set a module to display via the social network link on the menu...then exclude it for actual groups/events by using their URL 'exclude' option, where the module won't display if it detects a specified part of the URL.
"item" is a good word to pick out for this purpose....

see where you're coming from with SEF though....at least ES uses a proper url with the title....last time I looked, Jomsocial was still using non SEF urls for it's events!!

I wouldn't mind having the event category included vs. 'item' - it would actually help assign upcoming event modules with a category filtered via Advanced Module Manager.

I've purchased and installed sh404SEF. Now instead of /item/event-name123 it shows as /Social/Events/Item/event-name123, so I've taken a step backwards. I've put in a support question with Weeblr to see what my options are.

It there an EasySocial plugin in the works for sh404SEF in the future, like you have for EasyDiscuss and EasyBlog?

Hello Justin,

We do have built in integration for sh404sef components as you can see from the /components/com_easysocial/sef_ext folder.

Thanks Ezrul,

My apologies - when I asked Weeblr (sh404SEF) about removing 'item' they mentioned that the output is based on a dedicated plugin made for EasySocial and that they had no control over it. I should have realized the output was based on the included plugin you mention. Because the URL is more complex with SEF enabled I assumed something was missing.

Before enabling sh404SEF, an event's URL would output as: http://www.site.com/item/17-event-name

With sh404SEF enabled, an event's URL is http://www.site.com/social/events/item/17-event-name

Ideally, I'd like something much simpler and possibly include the event category vs. 'social/events' - something like: http://www.site.com/meetings/item/17-event-name

Is this possible with the sef_ext events plugin?

Thanks

Hello Guys,

Perhaps you can try download the following attachment below in order to remove "item" from the url while using sh404sef extension and place it inside your /components/com_easysocial/sef_ext/ and see how it goes.

Remember to purge the url after the replacement.

@Justin,

Unfortunately it is not possible to remove Social/Events from the url as it will caused conflict when you try to view the profile with the same permalink as event. Regarding on the category/event-title, I've checked the native easysocial url and it does not include the category layout or id in the url, hence it is impossible to include the category as part of the url. Hope you understand.

Hey Ezrul,

Just little suggestion here, people should not use sh404sef "purge" feature that often, and instead they should delete the sef urls they were affected by the changes. Purging should be used only as last option ( when nothing else help ), think about people with very big websites with big number of sef urls (purging may end up with lots of 404 error if they don't use a tool like a sitemap, to generate sef urls back)

Peace ! (aka jimie )
