Attached is how it is set in back end (img1.png) and what options are shown to the user on the front end (img2.png) which are totally different to how it is set up
Hi,

I'm sorry. It seems like there is a misunderstanding on my part. My designer colleague didn't apply the patch properly on your site and causes this issue.

I've applied the correct stylesheet on your site. Can you give it a check again? (do clear your cache)

Hi,

Please ensure that the field are you editing, and the user that you are viewing, corresponds to the same profile.

If this is the case then please provide us your site's access so that I can investigate this.

Yes although I have two profile types created on my site, at present only one profile type is in use and these settings are for that.
I have filled in website admin info.

Well first off, the screen shots you give for your website are NOT working correctly as on the back end the only option you have set is Single, yet on the front end it shows Single and In a relationship

I'm also confused as to what the check box at the top of the screen next to Relationship Type is meant for as I see you have it turned off?

Anyway, the way you set my system (same configuration as your screen shots) means it was showing the two options of Single and In a relationship so I just used a language overide to replace Single with --- and that will acheive the result I am after (albeit in a very cludgey way!)

Thanks for you help but I really do hope my suggestions around making the relationship system extendable will be looked into as the current system, to be honest, is very limited and feels like it was "thrown together on a Friday afternoon over a beer!"

Ok well I just installed version and it does at least work slightly better! But still the layout on the back end looks messed up and I think you need to always pick the items "one before" the one you want (see attached i.e. I select "Single" on the back end and the front end shows "In a relationship". If I pick just "In a relationship" on the back end, the front end will show "Engaged" - so everything is shifted by one, apart from the "---" option at the start. I'm guessing the check box right at the top of the screen is really the one for Single and so on ?

As I say, it still feels like this would benefit from a simple re-design as per attached relship.png (makes it flexible/extendible and consistent with the look of everything else on the back end.)

hello Andrew Heritage,

Sorry for late reply to this and misunderstood in your reply earlier,

Now I get your mean of that "Single" didn't show in your frontend user edit page, can I have your FTP access so we can help you check on this? because it seems like the default value is show single, check my screenshot below.

Regarding with this screenshot description -> relship.png
>> Do you mean that are you suggestion this so that the admin can set which custom field can appear in frontend right?

Please advise.

I still think we are "talking at cross purposes" - my comment is that in the current relationship settings on the back end, on my computer at least, almost all the the check boxes do not line up with the text, each one is "off by one". The attached image hopes to show that with the arrows showing where each box should be. So anyway, once you understand that bug, then the I believe the relationship field is working as you intended it. I only want the box to show "---" or "In a relationship" which it does by me setting it as I described above (i.e. in theory you pick the "wrong" check box or boxes, but they would be right if the check boxes were in the correct place!)

As for my suggestion, my problem is that as it is supplied, your "Relationship" field is very limited. It does not cover all the relationships my users can be in (I have an LGBTQ site so for instance, Civil Union is not on the list nor is Domestic Partnership) so my point is it would make sense to have this field extensible by admins so they can match it to the user base. I could imagine a Pagan site might want to add "Hand fasted" and I'm sure there are dozens of other things people may wish to add to their own particular sites.

At present what I have had to so is to create my own "Relationship" field which has listed all the relationships that exist for my users, but of course this means that if two people are on the site they can not set "I'm in a relationship with Jo" sort of thing. So what I also had to add was the existing Relationship field set to only show --- or In a relationship so users could link profiles.

So my suggestion is that making the relationship field extensible overcomes all these problems and doesn't seem very difficult to implement. The alternative would be for you to add more items to the existing field, but as I mentioned I'm sure different sites will have different views on what to add and some may be "controversial" for some people even (my users asked for polyamerous as well as monogamous options.)

Regards

Hi,

Is the CSS issue still persist in the latest version for you? Because the checkboxes being off is actually just a CSS conflict issue with your site.

And as for expanding the relationship type, we will see if we can implement this in the future. It is not as "simple" as you'd think it is because of some underlaying logics that decide if this relationship has a target, and if this relationship needs to send a request to the target, and various language strings to cover.

Yes the boxes in the wrong position is exactly the same after updating to 1.3.10 Everything else in EasySocial looks fine, it is just this one thing and as I know the "work around" I don't think it's worth spending time on.

Thanks re-thinking around if relationship functionality can be imporoved / expanded.

Interesting, I just looked and I also now see much the same and certainly it is all lining up okay now. I did install EasyBlog yesterday so wondered if that had something to do with it, so I took my site backup from yesterday morning (before I updated to 1.3.10 etc) and put that onto a test site. I updated it to 1.3.10 and checked the relationship layout and saw it was still "messed up". I then installed EasyBlog and checked again and still it is the same messed up layout.

So, my only conclusions are that (a)someone from StackIdeas made a change on the live site which fixed the layout issue (a couple of people have admin and FTP access) or (b)EasySocial somehow changes things all by itself!

I have made sure only I have access to the test site and will keep an eye on that to see if it "magicly" changes the formatting!

If anyone at stackideas wants to admit they changed something I think I would feel a lot happier as to how this happened!

Hi,

Actually my colleague, Arlex, did apply the CSS fix for you previously and he confirmed that it is showing properly on his computer. It could be browser cache perhaps that is not reflecting the CSS changes on your part until the cache expires on your end.

It may be he applied the change after the time I did the backup I guess. Attached image is how it now looks to me on live site.

Is the CSS fix going to be part of the ES code or will I need to re-apply it the next time there is an ES update?

To be honest, I think I prefer to stick with the bug as if, as I'm guessing, the fact that all the text now appears right justified instead of left justified is linked to this patch. Seeing the setting before the description is a bit like giving the answer before the question!

For the sake of having one "work around" on the relationship field I would be a lot happier with the left handed layout I had before!

Hi,

Our codes are actually wrote to justify left as what "english language" is. Right justify only applies to a few language such as arabic.

Ok, so any idea why my back end has changed and I now see the new layout with the text to the right of the options? On my test site that didn't have the CSS patch applied eveything is as it always was, so I'm wondering if the css patch on the live site that sorted out the realtionship layout has had this "side effect" of altering my layout?
