Seems like when you append the language 'de' in the url it will using the non-sef url instead of sef url. I've 'Remove URL Language Code' (it will hidden in the url) in the setting System - Language Filter plugin and the url is showing the friendly sef url now.
Please have a looks.

I'm still investigate how this issue could occur as we cannot replicate this in our local site. Actually, your site still running in multiple language now, but now the language url 'de' is hidden in the sef url.

Currently Easysocial unable to retrieve the image data from the URL without valid image link e.g. http://site.com/image.jpg || http://site.com/image.gif and etc , we will see if we can improve this in the future version.
