I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out why a Profile About menu item won't show the selected user. Any new user added is showing the same user. Can you please help?
Hello Thomas,

Don't pull your hair, let me pull mine The login credentials which you provided doesn't seem to work on your site and I can't view those profiles that you have shared

Can you please provide us with the login credentials and FTP access so that I can look into this for you?

Weird - it shouldn't be prompting a login for those pages, either. Something really strange is going on.

Hello Thomas,

Hm, did you add any customizations or hack on the page? Can you provide us with the FTP access to the site please?

We did some very minor hacks - just hiding a few things and changing some names/labels on things.

I'll have to get with my IT guy about FTP access. I do have the extplorer component installed, though, which is a file manager and gives you access to the file system.

Hello Thomas,

Can you please let us know as soon as you get the FTP access? We need to check these files that are on the site. Also, which files have you modified / hack?

I'm still stuck on this, and my IT guys are very reluctant to provide FTP access. Is there something I can tell them that will calm their fears about how giving you FTP access will not create a security risk?

We're still struggling with this problem, and FTP is a real challenge.

Can you use SSH to get in? If you can send us a certificate, we can get you set up quickly.

Hello Thomas,

We could use sftp. Please write me an email to mark AT stackideas.com and will send my public key over.

Sorry to make this so challenging, but SFTP won't work either. We could post the whole directory structure (zipped) to the website? SSH is not an option?

Hello Thomas,

Unfortunately the only method is via FTP or SFTP. SFTP is pretty similar to SSH and it uses the same authentication level. In fact, if SSH works, SFTP would work out of the box unless it has been specifically disabled by your system admin.

Argh - I'm really struggling. I've updated the component and removed all of our modifications, but it's still not working. I know you're a little limited without FTP access (although I do have the extplorer component installed, which does give you full access to the files), but can you see anything wrong? The only major change we've made is turning on SSL.

Sorry to be such a pain - we're so close to getting things off the ground, and easysocial is a critical component - it's awfully frustrating to have it working one day and not the next.

Hello Thomas,

Hm, let me try to use ExtXplorer to try to debug this but before that, how can I reproduce these issues? Both the links provided earlier seems to yield a 404 page,

Sorry for the delay - we had some problems with Invitex which stymied us for a few days.

Those pages are back online so you can see the same problem still exists (I just updated to 1.3.28). Basically, the Profile-About page shouldn't be prompting a login, and for some reason, the Profile-About only shows the TomS user (not Michael). You'll have to login with the site credentials to see this behavior.

You guys have been terrific so far - thanks again for all of your help.

Hi Thomas Spalthoff,

Sorry for late reply to this,

Perhaps can you provide us with this user account "TomS" access so we can take a look of this issues?

because when I tried to login as "easy" user account, it seems like didn't show much user detail, when I tried to edit profile, then show out "Welcome to SponsorBuy" page.

Looking forward of your respond.

hi Thomas Spalthoff,

Sorry for late reply to this,

I probably know what is the issues causing this, because I noticed you have 2 account for this user name "Tom Spalthoff" in your Easysocial.

#1. Tom Spalthoff (sign up via Facebook)
#2. Tom Spalthoff (sign up via Easysocial)

May i know is it same user?

Plus you created a menu item for this Profile About called "TomS" for your alias name.

By the way, can you temporary remove this Tom Spalthoff (sign up via Facebook) account from your backend?

Then provide us with your Facebook account for this, so that we can help you link this Facebook account in your Tom Spalthoff (sign up via Easysocial)

I literally just added the Facebook account 2 days ago to test that integration, and have been having this problem long before that.

Can we focus instead on the Profile About functionality? That, I believe, is the core issue at play here. As I understand it, the Profile About menu type should not trigger a site login, but that is exactly what it's doing for my Registered User profile type. While I'm playing some games with ProfileURL and menu shortcuts to make URLs easy to remember and distribute, I don't believe these are the causes of the problem. What's very curious is that the login prompt is only happening for Registered Users - I have a second profile type for Merchants, which the Profile About functionality works just fine for.

To illustrate this, I created a Profile About menu item for Registered User and the same problem exists. Can you look at https://sponsorbuy.net/sb/account-menu/christopher? (It's obviously under the account menu). Similarly, I've created a Profile About menu item for a Merchant-type user, which works fine. https://sponsorbuy.net/sb/account-menu/american-pride. Is there some problem with the way I've defined the Registered User profile type?

Hi Thomas,

Sorry for late reply to this,

What my suggestion in my previous reply is if you added Facebook account that moment you can actually allow you to link back with your existing Easysocial user account.

By the way, this 2 link profile about page it work fine now.
https://sponsorbuy.net/sb/account-menu/christopher
https://sponsorbuy.net/sb/account-menu/american-pride

Also, may i know which Profile About menu item is configured to show this user"Tom Spalthoff"? Because I checked in your site, it seems like you have created a lot of Profile About menu item which alias name called tom, toms, tomJ.

Perhaps temporary disable those menu item and see is it working? Then we check again and get rid of some possibility which causing this.

I've removed the other menus and/or disabled the other menu items for Profile About.

What's interesting is what happens to the name in the menu configuration screen. If it works properly, it converts the name to COM_EASYSOCIAL_GU.... When the name appears properly, it doesn't work. If you switch the setting between two different users for the Christopher menu item (Christopher and Easy Support), you'll see the different way it saves the item and how it works for one and not the other.

Hi Thomas Spalthoff,

Sorry for late reply to this,

We have applied some fix in this file -> JoomlaFolder\administrator\components\com_easysocial\themes\default\jfields\user.js

it should work fine now regarding this 2 Profile about menu item.
- christopher
- american-pride

The rest you have to recreate again > select the user on Easysocial profile About menu type > save.

Hope this help.
