Hello,

I have read a couple of posts on the forum about php7 and joomla 3.5, but want to ask you directly to get the latest.

Are your extensions going to support PHP7 when Joomla give support for php7 in the 3.5 release due to be out in the next 2-3 weeks? If you are, what is the timeframe? I notice the latest easydisuss is due for release very soon, so I guess that has been developed with php7 in mind?

I have all my other extensions pretty much ticked off as supporting php7 (or in the process of testing), stackideas in the last major one to go with me using both your discussion and blog products.

cheers Pete
Hey there,

We have not tested with PHP 7 yet but we did test our extensions with Joomla 3.5 and they are all working fine

Hi Mark,

You are working late!

Thanks for the reply - good news on Joomla 3.5.

Do you have a timeline on PHP 7? I think there are some real benefits to moving to PHP 7 and would like to migrate as soon as possible. The improved performance and reduced use of system resources is brilliant :-)

cheers Pete

To be honest, we are not pushing for PHP 7 because there are a lot of hosting companies out there are still at PHP 5.2. It may sound ridiculous but it is a fact that 40% of our users are running on PHP 5.2 / 5.3. I am not even talking about PHP 5.5 support

Nevertheless, we'll definitely ensure that PHP 7 works with our extensions but we probably can't fully utilize the benefit that it has to offer.

I'm surprised by that! Hosting companies shouldn't be taking money for supplying out of date software that has security flaws! Their customers should vote with their feet! Moving a Joomla site isn't that hard to do. I use dedicated server for live and have test site available to me, so easy for me to say I guess when I get control!

It would be good if php7 could get a higher priority with you. There must be a good number of us in that other 60% that could benefit :-)

If you can at least ensure php7 works when Joomla announce php7 support then that is a good step forward. And then bring benefits that take advantage of the improvements.

cheers Pete

Hey Peter,

That's what I thought too but you will be surprised at how stubborn some web hosts can be. Heck, we even have a customer who request a refund because his hosting provider is reluctant to upgrade to PHP 5.3 (They are on PHP 5.1)

As a software provider, this is our biggest dilemma! We need to sustain our business and in order to do that, we have to ensure that our software works across different platforms / different PHP versions / different MySQL versions / different Joomla versions.

We love to add awesome and cool features but often limitations by these hosting companies are driving us up the wall. One of the most common issue that we face is cronjob! You will be surprised that some hosting companies don't even have any idea what "wget" is!!

Okay, enough ranting from me

Hi Guys,

I have been playing around with J3.5 Beta 2 and PHP 7.

Easysocial has a fatal error in this context:

Fatal error: 'continue' not in the 'loop' or 'switch' context in /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/uk35/administrator/components/com_easysocial/includes/fields/fields.php on line 308

Just as a heads up for those of you thinking of using PHP7 when 3.5 launches this/next month.

Thanks for the input on this Jordan! I haven't tested EasySocial with PHP 7 yet but I have already tested this with EasyDiscuss 4 and it's working flawlessly.

Going to try with EasySocial soon

Great to hear Mark!

I briefly tested with EasyDiscuss 3 and it loaded. But not so with EasySocial.

We are also waiting for php7 support. Everything else we run is ready but not easysocial. So please add me to the 'interested in php7' list.

thanks

As always - you guys are awesome. Thanks!

Kindly kick the mobile app company in the fanny will you? I wish they were 1/10th as good as you guys. The only weakness in your entire product line is the lack of native apps.
