Hi
I tried to upload a photo on the website, got the error: Http error
pic's size was 4310 × 2864, when i change the resolution to 3000 × 1994 it uploaded...
What is the max size of a photo?
Thanks
Hi alexander,

I'm really sorry that delayed of this reply,

1 - How the memory limit and the local limit related? Why the 512mb is not enough? And is is possible to fix from your side if so?

I'm still figure out what else of the solution for this, because it depend on your image resolution, if the image resolution is very big, then it will spend a lot of memory limit.

2 - Is there a setting where i can choose the max resolution of the picture which can be uploaded?
If no I think it will be very frustrating for my users to upload photos and hit HTTP error or blank spaces in the albums without any explanation why...

Unfortunately we do not have any max resolution setting at this point of time yet.
Yes, I understand, I'm keep testing about this, but i noticed now i hitting this error, check my screenshot below.
Warning: imagejpeg() [function:imagejpeg]: gd-jpeg: JPEG library reports unrecoverable error

Can you try my following method?
#1. Check with your webhosting provider your server is it have enough disk space?
#2. Are you using Shared Hosting Service‎?
#3. Enable this ini_set("gd.jpeg_ignore_warning", 1); from your php.ini file.

Looking forward of your response.

What is the sizing between the two photos? Does the bigger one exceed the limit set in ES, your server, or Joomla?

No, the size is set to 6Mb picture, the size in not a problem, but the resolution seems to be is, the picture can weight just 10kbs but if it's more 3500X2500 or so it won't upload. Do you know where the resolution setting in ec/ or joomla/ server? I'm quite a newbie

After investigating a bunch of settings (apps, access, profile type, ect) I could not find anything related to photo resolution (I did find the setting related to photo storage size). I stretched one of my images to 5000X3750 and it uploaded just fine. Can you upload the large image via Joomla's media manager? I'm trying to figure out if it's a ES issue or a server issue, or potentially them running into conflict.

This is actually a good thing, this means that it's probably not a server issue (directly). Most likely this is a solvable issue. I suspect that maybe ES is coming into conflict with your server at some point at which the Stacked team would need to investigate. This post was made on the weekend, hence why it hasn't been addressed yet. I'm guessing the team will be able to look into this in 3-10 hours assuming you have ftp/login info attached. Otherwise most likely tomorrow if they are over booked. They have a lot of requests to go through today.

hi Alexander,

I'm really sorry that delayed of this reply,

I've tried to upload which image resolution very high one like 5000x5000 in your site, then i hitting this memory limit issues, check my screenshot below.

<b>Fatal error</b>: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 20000 bytes) in <b>/administrator/components/com_easysocial/includes/image/adapters/asido/class.driver.gd_hack.php</b> on line <b>248</b><br />

Can you try consult with your webhosting provider to help you increase your site PHP memory_limit - 256M and see try upload again and see how it goes? Because I believe which image resolution is very high also need to spend a lot of memory. By the way, Keep us updated then the result.

Hi Arlex,

Just got not a pleasant reply from my hosting provider, that increase of memory_limit is not possible and limited to 128MBs.
They suggested me to optimize the scripts, but i don't know what they even are.

Hello Alexander,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply.

Hm, this is quite difficult to just change the behavior of the image uploaded. I've do some reading and they said the only way to overcome this issue is to increase the php memory_limit to higher value. However I got an idea that might work but it seems like the Joomla access credentials is no longer working. Can you re-provide the joomla access so we can test it directly?

Please advise.

Hello Alexander,

I have tried to manually set memory limit to higher value using the ini_set() function but unfortunately no avail. I am sorry but it is not possible to turn this around unless you increase the memory limit in your server to higher value. Nothing we can do here.

Hello Alexander,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply.

For some reason the master value of your memory limit is still at 128mb as you can see from my screenshot here, http://screen.stackideas.com/2015-06-26_1521.png . Hence when I'm trying to upload a high dimension image the following error still persist,
<b>Fatal error</b>: Out of memory (allocated 146276352) (tried to allocate 21888 bytes) in <b>/administrator/components/com_easysocial/includes/image/adapters/asido/class.driver.gd_hack.php</b> on line <b>495</b><br />

I checked your .htaccess file and the memory limit value is not overriding the master value from php.ini. Can you consult your current webhosting provider regarding on the memory_limit value?

Looking forward to your response!

HI Ezrul

I spoke to support of my hosting provider, they said, 512mb is the correct value, applied to the website.
They said that the problem is in the incorrect work of the script They said that sometimes the file cannot be uploaded and there is "Out of memory "error and sometimes there is an empty file and another error in the log. There is a log err.log.txt you can find in the root folder of the website. They could, somehow, upload 2X 5000X5000 images. I will attached them to the post. I also changed the access details to the site and will share them too. Please have a look, at this moment i changed my hosting provider, and spent already a week to find out what happened, and still have a problem Thank you very much for the wonderful support.

Hi Alexandar,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here.

Thanks for getting back to us and show us that error warning message, it seems like the error message is point to some of the file/places is not readable permission, can you try consult with your webhosting provider to help you set this log file to writeable permission and see how it goes?
Check my screenshot : http://screen.stackideas.com/2015-06-27_1112.png

By the way, I've do some testing in your site and compare with my test site, when I tried to upload this following attachment image (resolution 5000px x 5000px above) in my test site, it work fine but your site is not upload successfully.

Take a look of my screenshot below. Keep us updated then when your hosting set this directory file to writeable permission.

hi alexander ,

I'm really sorry that delayed of this reply,

After investigate long time ago, it seems like when you trying to upload the image which resolution very big, so it will spend a lot of your memory, I noticed that you only set the memory_limit value from your htaccess file?

If yes, can you consult with your webhosting provider to help you increase the memory_limit to 1000M for the "local value" and "master value" as well? And how many memory_limit maximum can be set from your server?

Check my screenshot below.

After your webhosting provider increase the memory_limit, try access this URL http://Yourdomainname.com/phpinfo.php for double confirm the master value is it increased? Keep us updated then.

Hi Arlex

This is not possible, because this is a server general setting, the site has 512mb of ram applied already. They advised that changing the master memory_limit is not possible and would not make any difference. I will also effect the other users of the server, so the request was declined.

Hi Alexander,

I'm really sorry that delayed of this reply,

Since your webhosting provider is not allow to help you increase the memory_limit, perhaps you can try optimize the image resolution through in this website -> http://www.imageoptimizer.net/Pages/Home.aspx , then try to upload those image again and see what is the result?

This is a compelling reason in my opinion to have a admin image resize option upon upload (people have expressed interest here for this and makes a lot of sense).

Hi Arlex,

Thank you for your trouble, the things were getting a bit too complicated, so i switched back to my previous hosting provider but with a different hosting plan. 500mb of master+ local memory solved the problem once and for all.
Thanks again:)
