Having had problems with sh404sef it has been disabled and removed from my Joomla system. This has changed url behavior and I'm using the built in Redirect Manager to do this translation, after purging it completely of old entries.

Redirect Manager seems to be working properly for the main part of the Joomla site. It's trapping incoming urls and when I enter the corrected urls, it successfully traps and redirects to the correct page.

However bad urls that target the EasyBlog part of the site merely land on the front page. These bad urls do not get recorded as 404s in the Redirect Manager, and if I enter an expired and a new url pair in the re director it has no effect.

It's like something is trapping the bad EasyBlog url before it can get to the redirector. I've looked for any old sf404sef modules in EasyBlog, but haven't located any.

Here are some old and new url pairs for example purposes:

old: http://witchesandpagans.com/EasyBlog/how-i-met-and-was-blessed-by-belenus-on-beltane.html
new: http://witchesandpagans.com/pagan-paths-blogs/one-eyed-cat/how-i-met-belenus-on-beltane.html

old: http://www.witchesandpagans.com/One-Eyed-Cat/Blogger/Listings/shirl-sazynski.html
new: http://witchesandpagans.com/pagan-paths-blogs/one-eyed-cat/

The following one actually works correctly, even tho it has no entry in the redirector:

old: http://www.witchesandpagans.com/Pagan-Paths-Blogs/what-odin-taught-me-about-connection.html
new: http://www.witchesandpagans.com/pagan-paths-blogs/one-eyed-cat/what-odin-taught-me-about-connection.html

Any ideas?
Alan
Hello Alan,

In EasyBlog 4.0, we will actually follow Joomla's error triggering methods and will trigger a 404 message when an invalid item is being viewed. This way, other 3rd party extensions that rides on these error messages, can then be triggered by Joomla and does it's own logics behind these error triggering methods.

Hello Alan,

This is actually a known issue (Not really a known issue but a feature that we have added in EasyBlog) where we will handle the 404 requests ourselves. When a user tries to access an invalid post, it will redirect the user to the front page of EasyBlog and display some error messages there. Hence, there's no 404 logging in the redirection manager.

While it's nice that readers don't get a 404 error page. Redirection seems like a very important function for long lived sites.

Is there a third party redirector that you can recommend that works with EasyBlog?

Does EB 4.0 include it's own redirector?

Too give you some idea why this important. We promote our blogger posts on our Facebook site (>200,000 likes). We do this by linking each post from Facebook back to the full blog text on our EasyBlog site. We have done this for the 2765 posts on our site, and in some small way this Facebook exposure is a payment to our bloggers for their efforts.

Now that our urls have changed after the removal of sf404sef, due to a bad ajax EB-sf404sef interaction, all these post on Facebook and everywhere else in the web universe are effectively orphaned and there is not way to remedy the orphans.

I'm glad to hear EB 4.0 will not lock out the use of url redirection managers.
