As technology advances, web users have become to expect a visually appealing community sites, and fast page loading times. Business 2 Community-Jul 16, 2014

Often, they simply need a secure space to discuss topics that might be of a more personal or professional nature than their public Facebook page can handle.

By participating in private online communities, your customers or members are building a network of people who have similar needs and interests. Starting discussions, responding to questions, building out their profile, or adding content to your private community (such as videos or file resources) are all ways in which they’re building that network.

4. Orkut is Out and These Three Online Community Platforms are In

Incase you haven’t heard by now, the almighty Google is giving it’s first ever social network, Orkut, the boot. Google acquired Orkut more than a decade ago from a former employee who used his “20% time” (Google employees are encouraged to work on personal projects for a brief portion of their workday) to build the site. Rumor has it Marissa Mayer had to convince the former product manager, Orkut Büyükkökten, to let Google name the network after him.

Orkut achieved relative international popularity, and at one point in time was one of the top ten social networking sites in India and Brazil. Unfortunately Orkut never gained the kind of traction stateside that Google hoped it would and it was announced June 30th, 2014 that Google would be shutting Orkut down.
Those who have personal profiles and content on Orkut currently need not to worry. Google promises to allow users to archive their profiles, photos and content via Google Takedown until September 30th, 2014. After you manage to get your Orkut profile squared away, try one of these three online community alternatives!
