Hi,

Could EasyDiscuss(ED) not use native Joomla tags system ?

would avoid to use 2 tags systems (manage 2 lists, grrr)
would benefit from plenty of extensions using Joomla ones (search, database, nice clouds, recommand similar)
... and last but not least : the Joomla tags have dedicated pages for tags, lists, nice way of entering tags, allowing visitors to enter others or not (...) !

I guess that would be an easy coding for guys of StackIdeas & use part of Joomla tags code for forms & others.

For compatibility with ED sites already installed there could be a switch (use ED tags instead of Joomla: YES/NO) or other method (you decide ).

Note: I appreciated that ED may had tags implemented before Joomla implemented them, and that now it may be a bit-annoying to adapt to the-one-who-came-after ... but that's life, and we are all pleased of Joomla evolving, no ?

Anyway, this is for sure the futur of all Joomla-good-integrated extensions...

Thanks,
Fabrice
Hello Fabrice,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply.

Thank you for your kind feedback. Currently easydiscuss only use its own tags system to avoid any conflict with other components. From my understanding its quite tedious to actually integrate tag system with native joomla tags as other components might be using the same joomla tag system thus can causing conflict between two components.

hi Ezrul,

I can not judge better than you on the technical aspects, but on the user functions I can
EasyDiscuss is a heavy text discussion (no good English, but I mean target to manage a LOT of articles & texts ; in contrary to akeeba or other similar extensions)
And tags is related to that in big text sites, like Joomla native articles
Joomla tags is a list in a table (ex "my tag" as id 123)
In EasyDiscuss, to attach a field to each discussion containing tag ids 123 or 456 ... sorry, it does not look too complex to me if it is only one way direction (the other way, from tag to easy discussion article seems more tricky indeed). But a same tags base would already be a big plus. Would also have the nice joomla autocompleting during tag entering.

Anyway, this is for sure the way to go of all major JD extensions, I bet you a beer on that.
And from user point of view, I can tell you that during choice of CCK or other heavy extension like ED, it is a major criteria to see which one is the closest to Joomla native system. The farest from native, the less we tend to chose, garentee - user call it good function, seller call it competitive advantage

Just my thoughts
Kind regards,
F

Hello Fabrice,

Thank you for your kind feedback. We will see what we can do about the tags integration in the future but keep the anticipation low for now.
