Hey guys, I had an idea that I think would greatly improve the UI...

For example on my site I use "Everyone" view as default, but if members want to change to "Me & Friends" it isn't exactly self explanatory. If it were on the top of ES as 3 selectable Tabs, it would A. make it self explanatory and B. remove some of the clutter on the sidebar, and make it easier to replicate the sidebar on other pages.

Just food for thought, but I think it would be an easy change that would really improve the experience
hey jannik,
thanks for your input. as you know our code is 100% open so feel free to modify it to your needs

however for a global change in the system I personally don't think it would improve the UX if the filter settings were moved to the top. because next to the 3 default filters you don't have to forget that there's the ability to add your own personal filters as well. now say you add 10 more filters for the things you're interested in, then putting (in total) 13 tabs to the top of the stream is not very good looking at all. and keeping the main 3 on top and the other 10 to the left would disrupt the filter feeling in general.

hehe, I still would like to see Me & Friends - Everyone - Following on top... and you could even add Discussions, Blogs etc. although those two are much less important. I just know my early beta testers have requested for a way to toggle between everyone and me & friends, and I had to explain it was already there... on the sidebar... then a couple asked if it could be moved to the top to make it more obvious, because they never would've thought to click on the sidebar.

But if there is not enough demand for this, then do you have any tips on how to achieve this in a permanent way that works with updates? Could I do it via CSS overrides? I am usually very good at CSS overrides, I heavily modified EasyDiscuss on my age with CSS, but I can't seem to find a way to do this with CSS :P

Also, you could do main tabs up top and custom filters on the sidebar, I think that would be a perfect balance.

Thanks for the heads up on this Jannik but I honestly think that splitting the filters out to separate areas would be even more confusing because you then have "actions" everywhere on the screen. The reason that we centralize all filters to be on the left is so that the user's automatically know whenever they use EasySocial, filters are automatically available on the left (If there are any filters).

Yeah I hear you... so I take it you wouldn't consider adding a toggle in the back end? :P
