Hi,

I am looking at ED to implement a series of private discussion boards.
The creator of the thread needs to be forced to enter a password to protect the post when creating one, how can I make the field required, preferably only on a certain category.
Hello Rowan,

Since the latest version of EasyDiscuss has "Private Discussions", why not just use that feature instead of enforcing a password? The private discussion feature will cause the discussion to be read-able by the topic starter and the moderators on the site.

Can the creator of the post select who can view the discussion from the userbase?

If not this won't work - this is user to user private rather than user to admin

Make sense?

Hello Rowan,

Unfortunately that's not possible The moderators of the site would have access to view them.

Hello Rowan,

Unfortunately the user cannot choose which users that is allowed to view the discussion that they have created Also, there's no real way to actually enforce password to be entered unless you customize the new post form. The file responsible is at

/components/com_easydiscuss/themes/simplistic/form.new.php

I would love to have this privacy setting too because it would improve the participation. Not everyone is comfortable to let anyone to see what they want to tell a selected group of readers.
