Hey there,

I'm just curious if a live chat feature is planned for EasySocial? I was planning on buying one, but if you guys are planning on implementing it I can most likely wait.

Thanks!
There has been lots of talks about the possibility of a chat, many of us have requested it. I know they are working with partners for better implementation of existing ones, such as Jbolo. That being said, no official confirmation or release date has been announced regarding an in-house chat. So for now, having tested Jbolo, CometChat and ArrowChat's latest versions on EasySocial 1.2, I can confidently say that currently CometChat is the one to beat... but I know the developers of JBolo are working closely with Mark to improve their implementation to a greater degree, so in the future it might be the one to beat... but for now CometChat, their latest release was surprisingly good. That said, none are fantastic yet :P

... that said, with Mark and Stackideas you never know, they might surprise us... so take what I said with a grain of salt.

Thanks for sharing Jannik Yes, as Jannik pointed out, as of now, we do not yet have any plans for a chatting system as we would want to focus on 3rd party developers to build this.

So far from what I've seen of cometchat is that it pulls Joomla's real name field to use in chat and I know it seems strange, but for my site in particular, I need to be able to use fields from EasySocial, so I'm not sure that cometchat is going to work.

The Tigra WebRTC version in EasySocial apps area is based on free video chat from vLine, has anyone used either Tigra or vLine and any thoughts on the products as an option?

Would the developer section of vLine be a simple direct option for Stackideas to use as a route to include Video Chat in EasySocial?

Hm, if i recall correctly, Cometchat would actually use the name that is configured in EasySocial. Have you tried contacting them? Here's another extension that does chatting, http://storejoomla.org/

I have contacted them. Their integration is using real names vs joomla usernames and I haven't seen anywhere to change that. None of their modules, plugins or extensions seem to affect how the name displays.

Thank you Mark, I don't know how I missed JSocialChat when looking for a message/video chat extension with numerous excellent reviews that works with EasySocial.

It is only $45 so I purchased and installed it, seems to work out of the box and (ref Richard's post above) gives the option of choosing full name or username - see image.
