Using the latest version of ES, I noticed a bug in the Activity Stream today using the Kunena plugin. If a member makes a post using the Kunena Spoiler Alert feature, the spoiler gets displayed in the Activity Stream instead of being hidden as it is supposed to be. Also this text is included and should not be: "Warning: Spoiler! [ Click to hide ] "

(it is not clickable)
Hello Paul,

What does a spoiler alert do? Is it just another thread within Kunena ?

it is part of the bb markup similar to the code or quote markup. The purpose is to obfuscate/hide some bit of text within a message until a user clicks to reveal the text. So for example if your message/post was about a movie and you didn't want to "spoil" it for some people who hadn't seen the movie by revealing something that occurred within the movie, you markup that bit of text so the other readers can choose whether or not to read it.

So obviously this is a big problem if that text is getting revealed in the Activity Stream.

Hello Paul,

Sorry but I am actually not an expert in Kunena, but how does one use the spoiler feature?

it is in the standard interface for posting a message. Just like in the forum here where you have the buttons for posting using for example the
quote
or
code
markup, in Kunena one of the options is for spoiler.

Hello Paul,

The spoiler might only work in Kunena because we didn't implement it in our Easysocial. However, we can modify the file so that if there is spoiler code detected, we will hide the content of the spoiler. You can provide us your backend and FTP so we can help you on this.

I'm not sure if you are understanding the issue. This is not an issue specific to me. It is a core/standard feature of Kunena. So for the ES/Kunena integration, this is a bug not a feature request from me.

Hello Paul,

Is "quote" the same as a "spoiler"? I really have no idea how would you add a spoiler into the post of Kunena.

I'm starting to think that you're messing with me...

how: the process from the front end is to click the spoiler button and any highlighted text will be marked up.
how: the markup would be:

Warning: Spoiler Alert!
[Toggle message]

text

Hello Paul,

Firstly, I am not messing around with you We did not write Kunena and we have no idea what spoiler is. Neither do we use Kunena so we have no idea how spoiler works / added. In EasyDiscuss we do not have such utilities, if we did we would know

It would be a whole lot easier if you just provided us with the spoiler codes. Anyway, you can find the fix in the attached file. You will need to upload it into /media/com_easysocial/apps/user/kunena/

Cheers!

Mark,
I was just kidding but there is a disconnect. I guess I assumed that you understood that the markup that you use for ED is the same that is used on almost all forums and it is called bbcode (bulletin board code). This is not something that Kunena invented or that the Stackideas programmers came up with uniquely but instead something that is pre defined and common, and utilized along the lines of, but specific to forums or other text processing interfaces, how you use html, css or even php.

The markup as I stated works in Kunena the same way that it works in ED for quote and code. In fact, in Kunena and ED the markup is identical It is just that in Kunena (and many other forums) there are a few additional options/tags that ED doesn't include such as Spoiler. Off the top of my head, in addition to Kunena, phpbb, vbulletin and xenforo include a spoiler tag for the bbcode offered in their posting interface.

I was not asking for a personal fix but just reporting an issue that will be a problem for EVERYONE using ES / Kunena integration. But thank you for the file.

The tag [spoiler] is literally what it sounds like. If I post a review about a movie, users would not want a really exciting part given away. So I would use the [spoiler] tag to hide that part. The tag alerts the user that it's a spoiler (hidden details revealed). Basically it hides text but allows the user to open it when clicking the "warning text".

Indeed spoilers should be hidden from the stream because it doesn't make sense to give out details that are meant to be hidden unless the user really wants to know what it is. Right now the stream generates the text "Warning: Spoiler! [ Click to expand ]" which is a teaser but doesn't really work because the spoiler depends on using Kunena's scripts in order to open. Will the fix above be applied to the next version of ES?

No problem Paul but we hardly use any forums apart from our own forums and this is why we don't really understand what spoilers are. Anyway, the file should fix these issues
