When I'm viewing the list of discussions within any particular subcategory, is there a way to show the parent of that category somewhere there (i.e. a breadcrumb back up to the parent level)?

Thanks. -- Rik
Hi Rik,

I had asked something similar here:

It appears we have to create a matching Joomla menu items to match the EasyDiscuss categories. See here:

Hello Rik Brown,

Do you mean that when you access your category page then the subcategory doesn't show out right?
Is it possible provide us with your Joomla backend (URL + access) and FTP access so we can help you check on this ? Please advise.

Actually, it is the opposite. When I visit a subcategory, there is no link back to the parent category.

PS: Our forums are not yet online as we purchased EasyDiscuss just yesterday and are migrating posts.

So you are saying that to get back to a parent of a subcategory, one must start at the top of the category list again and drill back down? If so, that seems rather odd for forum software that has multilevel categories.

I gave the navigation module a try but it just shows a list of the top level categories and none of the lower level categories. So if I'm in the following category:
Regions -> Asia -> Japan -> Tokyo
... and want to go to...
Regions -> Asia -> Japan -> Osaka
... one should be able to have a link back to the parent of "Japan" and not go all the way to the top level category of "Asia" to drill back down to Osaka.

Frankly, every forum software that I've used in the past 10 years has that ability. I assumed EasyDiscuss would have it too.

We just purchased EasyDiscuss and are attempting to migrate from vBulletin to EasyDiscuss. So we will be making a decision soon before our 30 days is out on whether EasyDiscuss can replace vBulletin on our site.

Thanks for the information. -- Rik

Arlex:

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, I'm referring to the "You are here: " set of links as per your 2nd screenshot in the message directly above.

I don't see those anywhere on our site in any subcategory.

Is there an administrator switch to toggle that on/off?

Thanks. -- Rik

Hello Rik,

Sorry for late reply to this,
That's strange, may i have your Joomla backend access so we can help you check on this?

Or is it possible temporary upload your site in the live site, so we can access it and investigate on this issues?

Yes, the issue is now resolved. I didn't know that Joomla had its own "breadcrumbs" module and that it can be used for EasyDiscuss.

So I'm a happy camper.

Thanks. -- Rik
