image popbox inconsistency

hey guys,
it would be a good idea to have a consistent behaviour throughout the site for displaying the images and not jumping between 2 different views:

right now:
on a profile, click on cover photo -> popbox
on a profile, click on avatar -> popbox
stream for new photos -> popbox
stream for updated cover -> popbox
stream for updated avatar -> popbox

photo widget -> single image view (album, no popbox)
inside photo album -> single image view (no popbox)

to have a consistent look and feel we should stay with 1 method for displaying the images - either popbox or not, but not mixing

I too noticed this as well and found it a little strange. Don't get me wrong, I do think it's cool that the user can choose whether or not to view old fashion style vs new. Personally I think it would be neat to have a profile preference to allow the user to change which one to make the default instead of making the user have to select it each time. In other words, if someone didn't like viewing in popup box mode, an option on the profile could allow them to view it as "normal".

good to see we all agree that the current way is "sub-optimal".

I think no matter HOW this can be chosen later (user option / admin option) the key point FIRST is that by default the system is using ONE system, either popbox or not as it simply makes no sense to have 2 different views as it is right now. so either everything opens in popbox or everything opens in the album view so the user has a consistent feeling.

if you're driving a cabriolet you drive open or closed, but you don't cut the roof into half and have it open one side and closed the other side

just checked this on the latest 1.2.9 and looks like you changed the photo widgets to now use popbox as well, so we have 6 out of 7 views consistent. But being inside an album the default way to open an image is still the non-popbox view so this one is still missing.....

Thanks Mark. After all the SEO factor needs to be considered which is why I think making it configurable is a great idea!
