I see that group events are not listed on the event's main page, or in the ES events module, but they are listed in the story/dashboard stream. I'm guessing this is by design as it's part of the group itself, but I'm wondering if it would be better to include it in the general events related sections since it may help promote the group and avoid confusion for those that are part of a group but don't see their event in the events main section.

Another element that may add to the confusion of group events is that when it's listed in the dashboard news stream, it includes the "Open Event" icon, even though you have to be a member of the group to view it.
Hello Justin,

Hm, this is actually by design as the idea is to only segregate events within groups itself rather than opening up the events to everyone on the listing. Not only that, this is due to performance optimizations. If we are going to list down events on the all events listings, it's going to require an additional SQL query because it involves the group since it needs to know if the group is private, public or invite only.

Sounds good Mark,

If that's the case, would it not make sense to eliminate having to select a category for the event during the creation of a group event, since the group is already categorized, and the group event won't display in any of the event categories anyway.

Thanks.

Hello Justin,

The event would still need to be part of a category since the custom fields are associated to the category. Category is probably just a noun and it's real purpose is more like an "Event Type" since you have different fields for different event types.

Hi all,

Just to add on. Group events follows Group's type. If a group is "open", then the event created under the group will be "open" as well.

You can opt to list "open" and "closed" group events by setting it in backend -> EasySocial -> Settings -> Events -> "Include Group Events in Listing", in which this is set to No by default.
