A user experience improvement. I'm thinking probably an oversight but let me know if I should post this in VOICES instead.

Right now if you 'feature' an event, it lifts it out of the main listing and puts it top of page... that might sound sensible, but when the user starts browsing and scrolling down the available events, (s)he might actually miss the featured one because it no longer shows chronologically in the list!

So what I'm saying is surely when you feature an event it should get the top of page placement treatment but ALSO still show on the big long detailed list.
Hello Andy,

We'll see what we can do about this in the next version

Hello Andy,

When an event is featured, it will be pinned to the top. It will not be displayed at the bottom again as otherwise it would seem like it's pretty redundant.

My event creators raised the issue and I tend to agree with them.... you don't want to scroll down a chronological list to find your special featured event isn't included!

Often my calendar is used by people looking for a free weekend to schedule an event.... they could miss the featured, be browsing the list and say "Oh great - nothing on that weekend, let's put our event on" and of course that would be a mistake which they'd blame on the website!

Accept it might look odd if you only have 1 or 2 events (but it would still achieve its purpose of giving high priority to certain event(s).

Anyone else want to give their views to see if anyone else thinks this is an issue or a non-issue from the user experience perspective?

Hello Andy,

Not really sure if I understand you here but featured events are already pinned to the top of the list not really sure how they would miss that? Also, there's a "Featured" link on the sidebar which lists featured events.

Maybe it's just me then! Unless anyone else jumps in to support my view here....??

Here perhaps another way of explaining what as I see as the issue. Think of a car dealership selling cars. They produce a brochure with some featured cars on the front - nice photos, prominent, perfect... just like your 'featured events' display... Then inside the brochure is a 'A to Z list of our cars' and you'd expect to find the featured cars on that list too... they wouldn't take them off because people might miss them! So they'd show in both places... in the featured spot AND with the more routine listing.

My solution for now will be use a custom module top of page as an alternative way of 'featuring' events and then they will still show up in the main chronological list too. I'll just need to CSS hide the 'featured' option on the sidebar... but hopefully if other ES users agree with the issue it can be considered for a future core tweak.
