Will there be a Vanity URL feature that will enable each member to choose their own Vanity URL?
Will it be integrated with sh404SEF?

I think I spoke for many other Joomla-powered online community creators that the ability for members to have a true Domain.com/UserName Vanity URL enables users to truly connect with the website (creates a sense of ownership). It also lends itself to a different perception: as “Domain.com/UserName” says this truly a social media network build for you versus “Domain.com/Community/123-UserName” says this a blog with a social element, which was added secondary.
hey justin,
this is not possible automatically but you can manually change the url in your sh404sef management.

in addition to changing this by hand there's also an app from simbunch that integrates with easysocial and sh404sef that let you allow to do this as well (but haven't played with it since a long time): http://stackideas.com/apps/item/3-profileurl

hope that helps and have a nice day

Just following up to see it this has already been enabled wit 1.2.16+ ... I'd also like to remove the "Social" and the ### from the URL when sh404SEF is enabled.

Thanks.

Hello Justin,

If you are using SH404, it will already respect the permalink field and use the permalink as the user's URL.

Hi Mark,

You're correct - it does. I had it the field hidden when I was configuring the Profile Type. Now that I've enabled it again, is there a way to automatically populate the permalink based on the user's name during the registration process?

Also, with the permalink feature enabled, I have: http://www.site.com/Social/John-Smith

Is it possible to remove "Social/" from the url?

Thanks.
