Hello,

We've got two problems with sharing a number of our blogs on Facebook. For some of our blogs when we share the url on Facebook we get no image appearing - even though we have set a blog image. With some of our other blogs when we share the url on Facebook we find that one of the images from the web page header appears rather than the set blog image - and Facebook doesn't allow us to scroll to the correct blog image either - it just doesn't appear to see the blog image at all. It's very strange as there are other blog posts that appear to work fine and are set up in exactly the same way - same category, same url type and image format - and blog image set in the same way. Can you help?
Hello James,

I have tried to place the "url" which you have shared in the site details area on https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object/ so that Facebook clears their cache, and upon sharing it on Facebook again it seems to be displaying the results correctly as you can see here, http://screen.stackideas.com/2014-11-25_0013.png

Hi

Thanks for this, it has helped us enable these posts now to be shared on Facebook. However, it's not really a medium or long term solution as there will be other bloggers posting on this site and they would need to know this and do this every time and it doesn't address the second part of my question about the blog image not appearing as a thumbnail upon sharing. Also, we've changed the alias for the component in order to remove component>easyblog from the url and this seemed to help with the existing posts after we'd again 'fetched new scrape information' on the Facebook developers forum.

However we've created a new post with a blog image http://nwr.org.uk/news/entry/this-is-a-test and although it will share when we 'fetch new scrape information' it does not pick up the blog image - just all the other images from the page (social sharing buttons etc) At the bottom of the Facebook page from the developers forum, it says' 'See exactly what our scraper sees for your url' and on clicking this it shows the code for the page but strangely the blog image does not appear in it at all - see attached file. Could this be anything to do with caching or gzip compression or what other reason could there be as to why the blog image is in effect hidden?

As I'm sure you understand we need to resolve this as social sharing is fundamental to blogging.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Hello Jamie,

The entry at http://nwr.org.uk/news/entry/this-is-a-test seems to require me to login to read it. Since Facebook wouldn't know how to login to the site, this is probably why it isn't able to fetch these data. Did you configure EasyBlog to require users to login to read the full post?

Hi again. This has still not been resolved unfortunately. To test it is tricky as all of the currently published blog posts have been scraped on the Facebook debugger and so work fine now - however when we publish a new one - we always experience the same problem. You may need to create a test one yourself and publish it for a minute or so whilst you test it to see for yourself.

Thanks Natalie for your suggestion to disable Gzip. Whilst we can't do this for the whole site as it would result in the site running too slowly, we have added a plugin that disables gzip for Facebook bots specifically but still it's not fixed the problem. I can't believe this isn't a problem for loads of Easy Blog users as we have a very similar problem on our other sites that have Easy Blog. On those when we share the url on Facebook it doesn't pull the image in the first time but if we refresh it and do it again then it seems to work.

Please can you help?

Jamie

Hi Jamie,

I am sorry for the delayed reply.
We have already tried a few method to fix this issue but we can't. I believe this is a Facebook issue because I have done some search and found out that several other people also have the same issue. I believe this is not coming from us since EasyBlog already added the og:image tag to the blogpost and the Facebook scrapper only cannot get the image for the first time. But when you share it for the second time, this issue is gone.
These are the other people have the same issue as you:
1. http://ansonalex.com/troubleshooting/fix-articles-linked-on-facebook-dont-display-thumbnails-images/
2. http://www.itoctopus.com/problems-with-sharing-links-of-a-joomla-website-on-facebook

5. https://wordpress.org/support/topic/facebook-grabs-incorrect-thumbnail-image-why

Can you kindly disable any system plugin that doing compression on your site. May I ask, do you have this issue previously? Because I believe you're our first customer that report this issue to us.

I am really sorry for the inconvenience caused.
