I have spent my night looking all over everywhere trying to figure out how to get rid of the funky looking bulleted item list that appears superimposed on my Easy Social Profile page. In the attached image it appears in light bluish font on the left side of the page. How do I get rid of this???? It SEEMS this is a new problem cropping up after I did the Easy Social upgrade last night.
Hello Mark,

Hm, it doesn't seem to work for me. Everytime I try to access EasySocial, I am hitting this error http://screencast.com/t/4gziwnO9nt . Also, the FTP access isn't working, I am getting this error when logging in via FTP http://screencast.com/t/9Q1NusOH

Hello Mark,

Which page is this? Is this on EasyBlog or EasyDiscuss? We have disabled the toolbar integrations in favor of using the EasySocial toolbar to display the toolbar of EasySocial in the respective extensions.

Hello,
It is the menu item type "Profile"under "Easy Social". But the same menu-looking text appears on other social pages, I believe. Look at the screen capture .... that ugly gray block I would also like to get rid of too. It looks horrible, any answers?

Hello Mark,

Hm, that's odd. The toolbar style should work fine across all views. Is it possible for you to provide us with the back end and FTP access to your site to check on this issue?

I provided backend access on another item and nothing happened. Not sure this problem will show up on the current deployment out there. I am just doing a bunch of work-arounds to get around multiple issues ... on localhost, as I am working on a April 1st site opening (wishful thinking). I just rolled back to the prior version of Easy Social and it works fine without THAT problem.
I am getting frustrated with the products as there are WAY TOO MANY configuration settings and its becoming impossible to work with them.
For now: how do I stop articles from becoming "Discussion Items" and even more important, how do I stop Blogs (blog entries) from becoming "Discussion Items"????????????
To me there are blogs, discussions and comments. I want them separated.
Thanks

Hi Mark,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply.

For now: how do I stop articles from becoming "Discussion Items" and even more important, how do I stop Blogs (blog entries) from becoming "Discussion Items"????????????

Regarding the above, I am a little lost here. Where you actually see these 'discussion items'? Perhaps can you capture a screenshot and show us where you seeing these items?

Please advise.
Sam

I have provided access to test site via the form. On the front page on right side is "Recent Discussions" which is a module using the easy discuss "recentDiscussions" module type. There are 3 entries there. If the word "discussion" is in the title (as in first 2 entries) the item was created thru Easy Discuss. If "blog" is in the title (as in the 3rd entry) it was created via EasyBlog in "New Blog Entry". So blogs AND discussion appear in the "recent discussions" module. I want ONLY discussions.
On the front page menu "Socialize" you have "Active Discussions" selection. This is an "Easy Discuss Front Page Layout" menu type. Yet in the listing, articles (the first entry "Heath Alan Page") blogs and discussions appear. If it is "Active Discussions" I want DISCUSSIONS not articles, discussions and blogs.
Please help resolve.
Thank You ... Mark

Hello Mark,

I am sorry but I am a little lost here. When I am on your front page, all I see is just the discussion module but I don't see any "blog" module here. See my screen shot here, http://screencast.com/t/O38lIJCkg .

As for the articles appearing on EasyDiscuss, it's actually because you have installed the article plugin for EasyDiscuss. This plugin will add a discussion form within your articles and duplicate the contents from the article into EasyDiscuss. I have disabled this plugin and the articles wouldn't get duplicated into EasyDiscuss anymore. You will need to manually delete the discussion in EasyDiscuss though for those previous items.

Hi,
Thanks for the response. Look at the screen shot you sent: The "Recent Discussions" section is, like you said, a "discussion module". But it contains BLOG ENTRIES! The 3rd entry "Christina's Band Blog" is a BLOG created in EasyBlog when logged in as Christina. My whole point is, Why are Blog Entries in my discussion module??

Thanks
Mark

Hello Mark,

The blog entries are still there is because it was created when the plugin is enabled. Even you have disabled the plugin, those entries will remain and will not automatically deleted. You have to delete it yourself in your Backend>Easydiscuss>Discussion. Once the discussion is deleted, those will not appear anymore. Hope this helps clarify the situation.

Hello Nick,
This seems to have fixed the problem and thank you for the quick assistance and resolution. HOWEVER, I do think the plug-in is flawed, or surely not working like the configuration screen implies. Look at the screen-shot I sent you. First, in the description, there is no implication that this plug-in, when enabled, would create discussion items for blogs and articles in the discussions listing. It seems like a "dual-purpose" plug-in considering that it needs to be disabled to prevent such activity.
More importantly, and what led me down the path of frustration was the following: look at the parameter "Fetch articles from these categories" on the right. This, in conjunction with its tooltip: "select the category you want the plug-in to appear in" implies that if you de-select all the categories except for the news categories like I have done in the example screen-shotted, that the plug-in will have no effect on the other categories. and this indeed happened when I removed the selection from the other categories and instantly saw the discussion section vanish from the bottom of those articles. This was great as it allowed the discussion where I wanted it. But I still needed to disable the plug-in completely to prevent the addition of discussions on BLOGs and articles from de-selected categories. It is weird I have to give up the benefit of the plug-in everywhere to remove its effects from where I don't want it!
Thanks though!

Hello Mark,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply. If you don't want blogs to be included in the plugin, you should exclude it from the "component" list and just include com_content

This original problem of really strange 'menu-looking text" streaming down the left side of the social pages is still not resolved and should be worked on. I cannot use the latest EasySocial, 1.2.6 and had to roll back to 1.1.3 to get rid of the problem.
The screenshots I have attached CLEARLY show the problem. in the screen shot file "easySocialProfile_w1.2.6.png" I simply took a snippit of the screen showing the problem, this is version 1.2.6 of Easy Social. Then, ALL I DID, AND ABSOLUTELY NOTHING MORE, was reinstall EasySocial version 1.1.3, then regenerated the Easy Social Profile page then took the snippit of that screen. That screen is shown in the attached file "easySocialProfile_w1.1.3.png". It looks great with the old version, horrible with the new version. What is the problem??

Hello Mark,

Did you add any template overrides for EasySocial? When you add your own template css overrides for EasySocial, you will need to import the css files from EasySocial if you want the core styles to be included. Otherwise the system only renders your own css file for EasySocial as it thinks you want to perform a major revamp of the layout.

Hello,
If by that you mean, any easySocialmodules in {mySite}/templates/{myTemplate}/html directory, NONE at all. Actually, no modifications of any files under {mySite}/modules. My module class suffix property for "mod_easysocial_menu" has 2 entries, with the siginicant one being "lightbox-1" from Corsa template. But this problem was happening to all the social modules (discussion, blog, etc.) I am really missing something. Why because I have a module class suffix (if this is the reason you are saying is causing the problem) does it ignore all the other css files in the Joomla framework that make up your components? I had no problems adding this suffixes as I was going along to get the right styling. But upgrading to new EasySocial just broke it all and gave the bad output I showed you in the screenshot. If it is simply copying css files into some place, then that is strange. But what files do I copy, where are they and where do they go?
Thanks

Hello Mark,
Thanks for the help on this. Sorry for the delay but I did create a test site to log into.
I don't have the problem visible on this site now of course, since I downgraded the version of Easy Social to get rid of the problem as I indicated in my April 5th post. It would be nice to be able to upgrade Easy Social but it gives the problem shown in my screen shots attached to that post and it is irritating.
The log in credentials provide admin access to my site.
THANKS!

Hello Mark,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here. I have tried to access the back end and when accessing the back end of EasySocial, I am hitting this error http://screencast.com/t/ELGguUwhw . Can you please set the user with super admin privileges? Also, can you please provide us with the FTP access?

Hello Mark,
That screen shot I have got and it is something to do with that PowerAdmin thing I have installed, I believe. I just click around other options or refresh and it seems to go away.
But I have changed the permissions for stack to be super user and ftp access is turned on but not sure how it works...never used it by turning on in Joomla backend, just have used it in my FileZilla app when I upload to webhost. I don't want to provide the cPanel pW.

Hello Mark,
I can't get the FTP access to work. My web host will only allow me to set up a FTP account to the main domain (this site is a sub-domain). and I am nervous about giving all this internal access to my site. One support person actually asked for my CPanel access! (from another company). I don't understand why all this kind of access is needed to fix these problems. My other problem of the differing avatar sizes was easily resolved by another support person by him just adding something to my css file. he didn't need FTP access. Since this problem here has been fixed with the work-around, I am going to lay it to rest. I just won't update my subscription for the product since the upgrade of the version on Easy Social creates the problem!
Thanks,
Mark Wuilleumier

Hello Mark,

Upgrading shouldn't create any issues I am only guessing that there's something that went wrong in the upgrade and I can't debug this because I don't have the FTP access to the site and I cannot install any file manager on your Joomla site.

Anyway, this is the error that is occurring on the site,

Fatal error: Call to a member function addDescription() on a non-object in /home/localmus/public_html/desmoines/media/com_easysocial/apps/user/users/users.php on line 158

I am not sure why it is hitting this error (Because I cannot debug the files on your site) but you should be able to fix this by removing the codes from the file /media/com_easysocial/apps/user/users.php and at line 158 remove the codes below:

$item->opengraph->addDescription( $item->title );
